This might really be it now. That's the same knee he injured last
Fall, and his doctor is said to have told him he cannot continue in his
current condition without another surgery. He sat one out already due
to Covid, now this after two wins. The article says he will decide his
future at the Nagoya Basho in July.

It's getting to be time for it to be official that there are no active
yokozuna.
This way Hakuho can go out with under 200 makuuchi losses...he actually
has 199 counting this default loss AND leads second-place Kaio by 199 on
the makuuchi career win list.
He may make an appearance in the Olympic ceremonies but it can be a
retirement thing.
Kakuryu's maybe-next-time comebacks have gone on long enough.
At the extreme opposite end of the banzuke,Sawaisamu has recorded his
475th career jonokuchi defeat.
Re: Hakuho's accumlated loss in makuuchi record - I did not know that statistic! I hadn't thought of the impact of withdraws on a stat that, as
you indicate, would definitely be something worth maintaining for the
great man.
For some time,I had wondered how far he could go in wins while
still having fewer losses than Taiho, but he didn't stop at that point.
Here he is as is with all the yokozuna with more than 199 makuuchi
losses for comparison.(Akebono had 198).

I agree with what, more broadly, that you imply: that thinking needs to adjust into a post yokozuna, post Hak/Kak realm. On that note, has Kakuryu given any indication of what his post-pro career plans may be (whether in word or "I got citizenship" etc action?)
