When I asked how he could be so sure of their supremacy and how he could
begin to define the “world’s finest” lemon he invited me to ask them for myself.

And so I did. “Lemon”, I inquired, “may I ask - what makes you so special?
Are you bitter or are you sweet? Which of the two qualities even makes for
the best tasting lemons? And even if you could answer such a question conclusively, how could you even know whether you are truly the most bitter
or sweet lemon in all the world?”

“Dear boy”, the lemon retorted [nb. for the likes of Alex and Freezer - substitute ‘retort’ for some similar, simpler word such as ‘reply’], “Let
me tell you a story. For we are indeed the finest, most bitter lemons ever entrusted upon the earth. In fact, in our entire existence - spanning continents and generations, never once has another plant ever approached

He continued, “Only once in the history of man, have we ever encountered another living organism approaching our level of acerbic bitterness. And I shall never forget it. I met this man on this snack-encrusted sofa from
which he watched a football match and used us to add some punch to his parasol-donned cocktail of choice. In between explaining how he hated both
the teams and all the players, and how he wished death upon all who dwelled
in the stadium watching, he briefly confused a lemon for the bowl of
pretzels he was gorging himself on, and took a huge bite out of us with his oversized jaw.”

The lemon finally surmised, “And fuck me if he wasn’t the bitterest, most distasteful bastard any one of us ever encountered on the face of the
