  • The new Sampras v Agassi rivalry

    Alcaraz v Sinner is the modern equivalent. Sampras always got up to
    beat Agassi when it mattered most and I think Carlos doing the same v
    Sinner will be a constant theme. Carlos stuffs around too much with
    fancy shots is kinda similar to Sampras playing half arsed and losing in smaller events, but their A game is the best when on.

    Not a great final from Sinner, who had won 26 matches in a row...
    Pretty even the first set, but Sinner messed a couple set points & that
    was it. Looks like he lost confidence completely in 2nd set.

    I'd compare Sinner to Murray.
    Alkie to Nadal.

    Alkie now 11-1 in slam & masters finals. Wow.

    It's Carlos that played great tennis. I am not sure why you never
    acknowledged him or his level of play. I understand you didn't
    like the comparison to Rafa in the beginning but man, it's
    different times now.

    Carlos played well, especially the big points. Great point to take the
    1st set.

    I think that today's match, in front of home crowds, and a very weak 2nd
    set, qualifies as a true beat-down. It's this kind of beat-down that permanently cracks players like Tsitsipas, Jabeur, Zverev, Keyes.

    Let's see how Sinner handles it, longer-term.

    Yeah, it was a tough beat-down for sure. Alkie has now won their last 4 matches.
    Sinner can probably take consolation on close 1st set and the fact that
    he had not played a competitive match on 3 months before the Rome. I
    think he'll bounce back. Still, Alcaraz has to be the favourite for RG & Wimbledon.
