But let's not talk that right now, let's discuss moves.

You watch lots of movies and you are a sucker for 80s and the period when you were a kid and you are emotionally invested with those. Right?

That makes you ideal for my question.

    https://youtu.be/LH8mp2uwSGo?si=GK1n9xxYDgDVumAe

Watching this movie in 2005 was probably the best movie visit of my life, so fond memories are there, not just because of the movie, but the movie itself was amazing too.

Personally as a non-fan, and someone who didn't care about any of it, I was familiar with the whole thing and nothing else, I immensely liked this movie. I was aware of the schism in that period. "Fans" hated it, movie goers kinda liked it.

I guess the hatred for prequels was coming from disgruntled X gen types who couldn't stand or watch their childhood heroes and childhood perceptions being, not even questioned, but merely portrayed from another angle?

As I said, I was never a fan, didn't watch this thing as kid, but back then I actually felt Star Wars prequels were more "star warsy" than the original trilogy itself. It felt broader, more epic and more realistic with all the nuances, not simplistic
    good bad stuff.

I always felt overall hatred and negative reactions were misplaced. Those middle aged guys around year 2000 (you?) wanted a recycled stuff, basically they wanted the shit sequels which they finally got in the last decade I think.

Basically were you emotionally invested with OT so much that you were the one who rejected prequels and what's your take on this whole thing?

I guess I'm not neutral on this either. I'd split people in there categories.

    1) those who watched OT as kids and are emotionally invested. Those are slowly dying off now.

    2) those who watched the prequels as kids and are fans of those, or those like myself who simply watched all of it at once, weren't necessarily fans, we knew the backstory and felt prequels were completing the circle in a bizarre way. We watched it at
once or in those couple of years, but prequels came last for us too. Vader recieving that helmet at the end of episode 3 was just the biggest it moment in the series, no? However our group is not relevant either, it's the smallest cohort and we will die
    too.

    3) modern and future people who watched all of it in numerical order, at one point they will make 100%. For them I think much of the suprise and enjoyment is lost. I think Star Wars should never be watched in numerical order. If you watch it like that,
Vader suit in episode 3 doesn't feel like a special moment, Episode 5 revelation isn't a huge thing, and basically you know the ending in episode 6 anyway.

Yes, prequel trilogy is rubbish loved by millennials. It's like a person
who doesn't understand anything about Heavy Rock but says that he
listens to Iron Maiden and nothing else. What was the question...

However I did like EP I and especially... The Clone Wars animated series.
EP II wasn't very good, Jedi in love nonsense. Roger roger.
EP III is sort of good in some cinematic aspects but NOT in the tone of
Star Wars saga, it's darker and too seriously made.

Then I really liked EP VII, it felt a lot like the original trilogy,
although with some flaws. The last two films.. well, not very memorable.

Also, what an infantile way to start discussion.

You behave worse than Zelensky what do you expect?

Well, I think sequels should, and probably will be de-canonised at some point. There's no place for them.

It's not that they're bad, let's be honest, they're mostly bad, e.g. their so called episode 7 is a childish carbon copy of episode 4, no originality whatsoever, lots of disgusting feminism and so on, it's all very weak. Some good stuff but not enough.

However the reason they need to be erased is this - sequels destroyed the whole premise.

Story ended or should have ended with Vader/Anakin's redemption. It's his story.

Instead the most bizarre plot twist happened with far greater stakes and same villains?

That's not serious imo. Even for a sci-fi or fantasy.

I don't mind Disney milking it, they could have made dozens of movies with old Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher set in post episode 6 period, but those should have been standalone movies that were set in that period, like they did with Rogue One
or Solo dealing with singular issues, single adventure and not "saving the galaxy".

    Galaxy was already saved.

Back to our main topic, I think the weakest part of the prequels is CGI that nowadays feel dated in some ways. Episode 3 is actually better in that regard than the first two and it's another reason alongside with plot why it's a superb movie.

Original trilogy had retro futuristic feel, Flash Gordon stuff, it's mechanical, so it will, or already has, aged differently. But it will never captivate hearts and souls of modern kids I believe. It's simply not flashy enough in this age I think.

And with prequels showcasing the backstory, there's nothing mysterious anymore in original trilogy.

E.g. will kids be swayed by Yoda puppet hermit in a swamp in episode 5, after they had seen him at his peak, commanding armies?

    I don't feel so.

I was never able to get my head around metal. I could recognize the
benefits of its influence on how a lead guitar might be played, but
beyond that it's as impenetrable to me as rap.

By way of contrast, I *was* able to connect with grunge very easily. Musically and lyrically.

I always enjoyed NWOBHM (New wave of British heavy metal). The day a
friend played Iron Maiden's "The Number of the Beast" and then "The
Prisoner" on his picture album blew my mind! I was a metal head ever
since. The intelligent lyrics, the great strong bass/drum drive, the
complex guitars and superb vocals. I was hooked.

    My favorite NWOBH bands:
IRON MAIDEN (their results over the years speak for themself)
    Motorhead (Lemmy is GOD!)
    Saxon (WAY underrated!)

But the post wasn't episode 3, it was about TT's generation and their reaction to prequels at the time. I was curious if something changed? I remember early internet in those days and star wars newsgroup boiling with hatred for prequels. I never posted
    there, but I've seen it.

I said prequels feel better for me, so that's about it. They're more epic and nuanced, and we get to see legendary characters in their daily life. It's like watching Big 3 in slam finals.

In comparison, original trilogy feels like watching Big 3 guys giving interview in their old days remembering the heydays and seeing some highlights?

Lots of distractions in original trilogy too, Han Solo nonsense and Chewbacca whereas in prequels we get to see Palpatine scheming his way to seize absolute power.

I just find the second thing more interesting. Maybe I was too old when I watched it for the first time.

I was never able to get my head around metal. I could recognize the
benefits of its influence on how a lead guitar might be played, but
beyond that it's as impenetrable to me as rap.

    Where would you put Metallica?

As a trash band, not NWOBH.

    You mean thrash, right?

    Yes, sorry about that. Thrash.

Stellar band, excluding that crap called
"Load" and "Reload" of course. Glad Newsted left the band afterwards and
    ceased his infection of it.

So many good albums. Top notch musicians.

    Lemmy rules, of course.

Yep. Even Motorhead's last album was pretty damned good.
