Ylöjärvi-based sock manufacturing company Sukkamestarit has received the largest order in the company's history from the Danish Defence Forces.

The procurement agreement between the Danish Defence Forces (The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation DALO) and Sukkamestarit was signed on Tuesday.

The four-year contract is worth at least 4 million euros, but it can go
    up to 10.5 million euros.

At least 750,000 pairs of merino wool socks will be made in Ylöjärvi for
the Danish military. The socks are made in five different models, the
thickest of which are also suitable for the arctic conditions in Greenland.

The victory in the global tender was a surprise, as the Finnish socks
were the second most expensive of the products in the competition.

    – The Danish Defence Forces have chosen us as the best, not the cheapest option. We received by far the best scores in both field tests and
laboratory tests. We are very proud of ourselves, says CEO Jussi Koskinen.

The agreement now signed opens the doors to NATO for the small sock
factory. Products ordered in Denmark will be opened to the NATO
procurement system, making them also available to other defense forces.

    – The first step has now been taken. I am confident that this will open
    up new opportunities, says Koskinen.

Sukkamestarit is also currently participating in the Finnish Defense
Forces procurement competition, which ends in March.

Millions for little Finland, a woollen deterrence for Danmark. How do
    you spell "win-win".
