*SOB* Very sad. But happy that so many turned up.
Never got into Thiem so not going to miss him at all. Stan is a
different matter, that guy was the boss : )
There's really nobody like Stan. He has 3x as many slam titles as ATP
1000 titles.
He was in his 12th season as a pro when he won his first slam.
Remarkable.
Yes, just goes to show how long it takes for single handed bh players to
fully mature. The long gestation period explains why it's almost
extinct in the modern game.
Going into that 2014 AO final Stan was 0-12 h2h v Nadal and never won a
set, 0-26. Yet he came in all guns blazing and full of confidence,
easily winning his 1st slam against an all time great at his peak. In
that brief 2014-2015 period Stan beat Nadal 3 of 4 times. Since then
he's lost the last 6 and overall it's 3-19 h2h.
In 2015 FO and 2016 USO finals he beat Novak comfortably in 4 sets.
Stan was a walking highlights reel and fun to watch, 1 of a kind. Thiem
cannot compare in any way lol
