From Scall5@21:1/5 to All on Sat Apr 13 23:47:58 2024
I say Ruud wins in three tight sets.

Ruud over Tsitsipas (and his GREAT one-handed backhand) 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

Tough to call. Ruud is playing better than I've ever seen him, that
forehand when he's confident is something else. If I had to pick I
agree Tsitsipas seems more likely to come through. He loves MC and
plays his best stuff there. He also showed a rare weakness Sinner has,
and that's covering the wide angled shots Tsitsipas can produce. Carlos
    and Novak should take note.

Ruud is more steady player and he is the favorite to win, but
Tsitsi will be motivated after taking out the top player in the
last six months plus his weird strokes somehow do well on clay.

I will go with Tsitsi :)

His strokes looks unorthodox, but very effective when you see the
results. He's great at pulling players out wide.

Which have been bad lately. Not sure what to make of this win either.
Sinner was a break up when the ump stole the double break from him. Then
had to call in the trainer.

Seldom do you see conversion rates as bad as Tsi's. I guess the good
mews is that he had something to convert. And finally did. But he's
still a headcase and MC is where the others take their first timid steps
on clay, Le Surface des Princes.

Ruud who defeated Djokovic in the SF was defeated in the final by>
Tsitsi who defeated Sinner in the SF :)That was a bunch of surprises
to me.It's time to seriously entertain the idea that Djokovich is
pretty much done.  Ruud is having a sort of "up cycle" like when he
won a few years back, and with Tsisti, who knows?I didn't see the
Sinner/Tstsi match. Did Tsitsi win it, or did Sinner lose it, or
what combo, do you think?-- "It is Pointless, and endless Trouble,
to cast a stone at every dogthat barks at you."--Sawfish

Sinner's strokes are clean that lack the spin factor needed on clay.
Of course the guy plays great tennis but he needs more experience to
transform his good game to clay. He could have defeated Tsitspas but
Tsi is more dynamic and his strokes are more bouncy on clay.

Tsi's strokes are so much more dynamic and bouncy thqt he would of
lost the match had the double break in the third not have been stolen
from Sinner. BTW, look at Sinner's groundies when you get the court
level angle. They have a lot of spin these days. Very unclean.

Kudos to Tsi for not giving in when he was trailing in the third.

so Sinner was up a break and 0-40 yet still lost?! to Tsitsi with his
1hbh? didn't see any of the match but sure does sound like he cracked as
he always used to or Tsitsi woke up and his shots were just way too powerful/good for him.

Sinner supposedly 'cracked' because a second serve from Tsitsipas was
ruled good when it was "obviously" out (per the Tennis Channel
announcers). Had that serve been called out, then Sinner would have been
up 4-1 in the final set with the ability to make it 5-1 if he held serve.

Sinner did complain. But the chair umpire refused to leave her chair and
agreed with the line judge's call.

For the rest of the match the Tennis Chanel announcers complained, over
and over again, about that 'horrible call' and how Sinner was robbed of
a great chance for a victory.

Personally, I LOVE the Tennis Channel. I get to watch most of the
non-slam matches I want to watch. But I also wonder if they are in the
same bed (influenced, paid-off, and/or etc.) as the manufacturer's of "Hawk-Eye"...

It was the call that troubled Sinner. Check out what he says and what
happened on court after. Tsi also says he would never have won without
that call. They all say the same: that call from Hell flipped the
outcome. Who am I to disagree.

Good for Tsi that Sinner crumbled because of a bad call

You got the causality straight now!

and got broken twice to lose a match where he was the better player even
though he lost the first set not sure why :)

Maybe Sinner isn't as great as we think?

I have no idea what this might mean.

For the fun of this, check the match stats:
