• Benfica v Sporting CP (R)

    From Mark@21:1/5 to All on Thu May 8 10:10:15 2025
    Benfica and Sporting CP are level at the top of the Portuguese League;
    same number of points, same number of goals conceded, I think Sporting
    have just scored 3 more goals. There's about 3 matches left. And this is
    one of them, coming up this Saturday.

    A big local derby; a big top of the table clash.

    Two games to go.

    first tie-breaker is Head to Head points, and Sporting won the first
    game 1-0 at home. A draw gives them the title provided they match
    Benfica's result in round 34. Their last match is at home to Vitoria
    (5th) , whereas Benfica is away to 4th place Braga.

    A win by 2 goals or more puts Benfica in the driver's seat

    Why did Sporting have black stripes on their shirts instead of just
    green and white stripes?

    Benfica should have had a penalty on about 25 minutes; that was a
    blatant push. Do they have VAR in the Portuguese League? If so, I don't understand how they could have missed that.

    Anyway, a 1-1 draw, leaving Sporting with the upper hand. Neither of
    them have got easy matches in the final round though. (Benfica have got
    the more difficult match though.)
