Honestly, Thomas Tuchels return is a game-changer.
Coming back after stints at top clubs like Chelsea, PSG, and
Bayern, Tuchel landing the England men's team gig is wild. The
expectation was all about picking a local coach after
Southgate, but here we are.
The fact that the FA didn't feel there was an English coach
capable of doing the job says more about the way they've handled
English football in the last fifty years than anything else. Or
mis-handled, as the case may be.
England have a football culture going back centuries. They claim
they invented the game, they sing about football coming home,
they have the oldest international football team, have the
richest domestic league... Yet in 2024 no English coach is good
enough to manage the England national team? Where does the
failure for that lay then?
Tuchel's known for his intense approach and tactical
brilliance. Hes the guy who lives and breathes
footballgenuinely obsessed with the game. Bringing in his
former Chelsea backroom staff is a bold move, but it shows he
means business.
I liked Thomas Tuchel, he won Chelsea (my team) the UEFA
Champions League, Super Cup and FIFA World Club Cup, as well as
losing in three domestic cup finals at Wembley. So nobody can say
he wasn't [reasonably] successful in his short time in London
SW6. In fact some could argue that Chelsea's recent problems
began when Todd Boehly sacked him!
It's a mixed bag of reactions so far. Some fans are all in,
excited to see if he can finally break Englands trophy
drought. Others are skeptical about whether he can adjust to
the international scene and deal with the insane pressure.
His biggest problem will be the English media. He needs to be
himself though and not what the FA or media want him to be.
Love him or hate him, Tuchels return is set to make things
super interesting. Well have to wait and see if he can take
England to glory or if itll be another chapter of so close,
yet so far. What's everyone else think? Are you excited or
apprehensive about Tuchel at the helm?
Good luck to him. He'll need it.
