    According to the new qualifying system, these twelve teams are all
    domestic Cup Winners (or teams that qualified through their league
    position if the Cup Winner also won the double). That's how Pafos got
    their European debut, and second-division teams Corvinul and Wisła
    entered the competition.

    Panathinaikos were the one unseeded team everyone wanted to avoid. The
    winner
    of the Sheriff tie would continue to be seeded into the next round, so potentially
    good news for Zirə, Elfsborg or Pafos.

    Israeli State Cup winners Maccabi Petah Tikva are back in Europe for the
    first
    time since 2006/07 (and for the third time in their history), while Cercle Brugge
    continue their 'in Europe once a decade' rhythm (1985/86, 1996/97,
    2010/11).
