• RSS Coach Sacking Competition 2023-2024

From Futbolmetrix@21:1/5 to All on Fri Sep 1 15:17:08 2023
New and improved rules this year!

You have 10 points which you can allocate to as many coaches as you want from the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, German Bundesliga, Spanish Liga, and French Ligue 1.

Maximum 3 points per coach, decimal points allowed.

Any coach that you nominated and gets sacked (or resigns, voluntarily or not) before December 31, you get the points, BUT there is a twist!

    - A coach sacked by a team participating in this year's Champions League group stage: your points are multiplied by 3

    - A coach sacked by a team participating in this year's Europa League or Conference League group stage: your points are multiplied by 2

    - Any other team: your points are multiplied by 1

    Deadline: Friday September 15.

    I like it !

I see De Zakarian, who got me more points last year than my other picks,
is back coaching in France again.

    Franck Haise 1.0

    Bundesliga

    Vicente Moreno 1.0
    Garcia Pimienta 1.0

I really don't want to go full Mark here, but Ligue 1 has currently fallen out of the Top 5 in the UEFA ranking, and it might well stay that way
until the end of the season which would mean that the extra spot in the re-vamped Champions League that the French lobbied so hard for
will go to the Netherlands instead.

If Eredivisie were included Ajax's new manager Maurice Steijn would be my number one candidate.

    - Any other team: your points are multiplied by 1

    Deadline: Friday September 15.

This is an additional dilemma in this insidious game - wait until the end of the deadline to gather more information, or risk that the most
obvious picks will have already been sacked?

This is all very interesting, but that's why the rules don't make any reference to "top n" leagues or anything. (whew...)

I'm also waiting. There won't be any further league matches until the deadline (OK, there will be some Friday matches...), so it's likely that any sackings should have happened already.

Laurent Blanc thanks me for the weaufxing:

So which of the following out of work coaches is going to get hired
    first, and by whom ?

    Antonio Conte
    Christophe Galthier
    Julen Lopetegui
    Giovanni Van Bronckhorst
    Laurent Blanc
    Ralph Hasenhüttl
    Julian Nagelsman
    Frank Lampard
    Graham Potter

I am sure the list could be added to.

I could see Galthier going to Lyon very soon. Speculation I read,
however, included Bruno Lage, and Graham Potter. Both have said "no
    thanks" apparently

I think he has developed a reputation of being too toxic, can't get along with anybody for more than a few months. Also very expensive. I think he's headed to the $audi league.

    Christophe Galthier
    Julen Lopetegui

Rumored to be in contention for the Lyon job.

    Giovanni Van Bronckhorst
    Don't know.

    Laurent Blanc
Can't see him get back in action very soon.

    Ralph Hasenhüttl
    Julian Nagelsman

These are probably the first two that will get a good job offer, not clear though what will be available.

    Frank Lampard
Fallen from grace. I don't see him getting a PL job any time soon.

    Graham Potter
Maybe the first struggling bottom-half PL side that needs a shake-up.

Sevilla were bottom of La Liga when I looked... so that seemed a

Cologne were losing matches and near the bottom of the Bundesliga when I looked... I just got the wrong manager when I searched for it. <face

OK, let' go for it. Just a few years ago picking the Cagliari or Genoa coaches would have been a no-brainer, but now they are both under new management, which is not necessarily as trigger happy as the old one. Plus, Ranieri (yes, that Ranieri) has just
been named a Cagliari honorary citizen, he has already declared that this will be his last coaching job...will they really have the courage to sack him?

Lyon is apparently considering Gattuso and Lampard as successors to Blanc. Both of those would be strong candidates for the sack, but I'm afraid you have to name a name, so until one of them is officially appointed they can't be in the list. Maybe I'll
leave one point as a a placeholder until the deadline?

    Here's my list:

    Mendilibar (Sevilla) 2.5
    Zanetti (Empoli) 2
    Sottil (Udinese) 1
    Seoane (Gladbach) 1
    Terzic (Dortmund) 1
    Dyche (Everton) 1
    Luis Enrique (PSG) 0.5

I don't think anybody has Rudi Garcia (Napoli), but he could very well be next

Pacheta, picked by noone, would have been a two-pointer.

Urs Fischer, picked by noone, would have been a three-pointer.

Yes. I think that should seal it for you, but let's wait for
December 31 before announcing the final results.

Should being the operative word of course.

It would be very harsh for anyone to get sacked now just before
Christmas, or straight after even... but IIRC our old friend Mr
Tuchel got his marching orders from PSG on Christmas Eve. So anything
    is possible.

It also wouldn't have changed anything at the top of the RSSCSC standings. I only had 0.5 on Mou, so even the 2x bonus would not have been enough to get into second place. Werner would have leapfrogged MH in 4th place.

They did not have the courage to sack him, and the reward was another

Sassuolo went down for the first time since they first made Serie A, and Udinese (new manager: Cannavaro -- early candidate for RSSCSC 2024-2025)
did an escape job with a 97' minute PK against Empoli to substantially
increase their chances of staying up (not out of the woods yet, though:
an Empoli win coupled with them losing in Ciociaria would see them drop

Empoli doomed Frosinone with a 93rd-minute goal.

One of Udinese and Frosinone never really had a chance, going against
    Davide Nicola's Empoli.
Here is a summary of Nicola's managerial career:

2010-2012 Lumezzane First managerial job in the third division,
    nothing of note
2012-2013 Livorno Promotion to Serie A,
2013-2014 Livorno Sacked mid-season with Livorno in last place,
recalled for last 4 matches but can't
    avoid relegation
2014-2015 Bari Appointed midseason, comfortable mid-table
    finish
2015-2016 Bari Decent start to the season, still can't avoid the
    sack.

    But now things get interesting...

2016-2017 Crotone Only 9 points in the first half of the season, but
    keeps his job and leads
Crotone to an improbable salvezza with 20 points in
    April and May. Keeps his
promise to ride from Crotone to Torino by bike.
2017-2018 Crotone Resigns midseason with the team in 15th place
    (above the relegation zone).
2018-2019 Udinese Appointed mid-season with Udinese third from
bottom. Not a great stint, as he is
sacked before the end of the season. Still, he
leaves with Udinese 4th from bottom,
    above the relegation zone.
2019-2020 Genoa Picks up Genoa in last place, leads them to a
    comfortable salvezza.
2020-2021 Torino Picks up Torino in January when they are third from bottom, gains one place in the
final standings, enough for Torino to stay up.

Next season's edition could be juicy.

Who will survive the longest, Kompany or Flick? Or Slot?

Yeah, will Liverpool have better luck with their bald Dutchman with
recent impressive accomplishments in the Eredivisie than Man United did?

    Ciao,
    Werner

Maresca has got to be a good pick for next season's competition.
A bad start to the season at Chelsea and he'll be like Tyson
Fury in Round 9 the other week... on the ropes and all over the
    place.

Who will survive the longest, Kompany or Flick? Or Slot?

Arne Slot. He's in no danger at LFC. He'll get the full season
    there at the very least.

I think Kompany could be a good pick for next season's
competition too though. Burnley didn't exactly set the world
alight. Normally you don't get rewarded for getting a team
relegated... especially in a league where two teams had points
deducted and still managed to finish above Burnley!

I don't think Erik ten Hag did a bad job at Manchester United.
Two trophies in two seasons is reasonably acceptable. Not that
it will save him though, word is Pochettino is lined up to take
    over there.

I think most of the problem with modern football is down to the
overpaid prima donna players who love looking at their social
media accounts to see what everyone is saying about them but
down tools if the Manager shouts at them for playing poorly.
Alex Ferguson would have cleared half of that squad out, after
kicking the tea cups at them! But of course, you can't do that
    anymore...

Arne Slot will need time at Liverpool, just as Jurgen Klopp did.
Slot will get that at LFC. They don't tend to sack managers
    willy nilly.

In the meantime, everybody's favorite point-getter this year, Jose
Mendilibar, is 20 minutes + PKs away from winning the Conference League
    with Olympiakos

    I hope not!

I am hoping for an Italian manager clean-sweep of the UEFA
    competitions this year...

New and improved rules this year!

You have 10 points which you can allocate to as many coaches as you
want from the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, German
Bundesliga, Spanish Liga, and French Ligue 1.

Maximum 3 points per coach,  decimal points allowed.

Any coach that you nominated and gets sacked (or resigns, voluntarily
or not) before December 31, you get the points, BUT there is a twist!

    - A coach sacked by a team participating in this year's Champions
League group stage: your points are multiplied by 3

    - A coach sacked by a team participating in this year's Europa League
or Conference League group stage: your points are multiplied by 2

    - Any other team: your points are multiplied by 1

    Deadline: Friday September 15.
