    That was the BEST light in it's day. He was partnered with Karl
    Krupansky for years and I think Karl still has parts since he built an
    updated cast plastic version of the same light. Every dive shop should
    be able to order from Karl since he has an accessory company called
    National Divers Manufacturing. Good luck!

    Looks like there's still a few of us survivors who keep rse in our feed ;-)


    I did a Google Image Search on 'darrell allan light' and found some pics
    of that big old yellow can - - and was immediately taken back 3+ decades
    to an old college buddy who had a light that looked just like this.

    But for whatever reason, he referred to his as a "Johnson Bug Light".

    Was it actually probably a Darrell and he had given his this nickname,
    or do you know if there was another company making a clone?

    FWIW, I'm reminded of how there were Jet Fins (ScubaPro) and Rocket Fins (Dacor).

    Hmmm ... I am not aware of that brand. I knew of the DA400 and DA500
    but never heard of the Johnson Bug Light. I do remember, though, that
    there was a different bulb for the 400 and 500 because the 500 was
    rechargeable and had a different voltage or something. I remember that
    if you were using a 500 with a 400 bulb, you had to pull one of the
    batteries or put a dead one in to keep from blowing it out. Since I am electrically challenged and our customers were cheapskates, we only sold
    the 400 version so I didn't have to explain the difference.

    The correct bulb is a ge965. The bulb is rated for 9.8 volts but was run at 15 or so volts in the Allen light. There are direct replacement led bulbs but none I've found would be very bright.
