    Dublin Maker Event Success

The annual Dublin Maker event took place at Richmond Barracks in
Inchicore on Saturday 2nd of September. Tony EI5EM reports that two
members of the North Dublin Radio Club had their projects on show.
Howard, EI9LC, demonstrated their Internet of Things remote sensor data
system, while Tony, EI5EM, showcased his many homebrew projects built
over many years. Joe, EI2JZ, helped deal with the many interested
visitors to Tony's stand. You can view videos of many of these projects
on Tony's YouTube channel called EI5EM. The event was a huge success,
with over 10,000 visitors. It was a long but very satisfying and
rewarding day. However, it was very successful in the promotion of the
    many aspects of amateur radio.

Seeking Interested Clubs and Volunteers for an Irish-based 145 Alive Event

The 145 Alive event is coming to Ireland for the first time on Saturday
30th September from 13:00 to 15:00 local time on 2m FM. The idea is to
promote the use of VHF in a short friendly event including operators at
their home locations and on high ground, be it car portable, portable,
or summits on the air. It will also run in the UK at the same time
which should add to the fun. The plan to set up a network of control
stations on high ground around the country and callers to the stations
will then be passed on to the next control station, if there is one
within range. Clubs and volunteers are now needed to help set up a
chain of stations around the country. Please contact David EI3IXB at
087-8334803 or via email to ei3ixb /at/ gmail.com if you can help.

South Eastern Amateur Radio Group EI2WRC

On the 23rd and 24th of September, EI2WRC will be active from The
Waterford and Suir Valley Railway (WSVR) station in Kilmeaden, Co.
Waterford for the annual Railways on The Air event. WSVR is a community
heritage project. The project has enabled the magic of rails golden age
to be brought to life in Kilmeaden. It is a heritage narrow gauge
railway running along 17 kilometres of the abandoned Waterford to
Dungarvan line. This year will celebrate EI2WRC's tenth anniversary of
doing this great event from Kilmeaden and the group would like to thank
the manager Maria Kyte and all the staff of The Waterford and Suir
Valley Railway for all their help and allowing us access to the station
to do this event again this year. For more information about the WSVR
please see www.wsvrailway.ie To find out more about EI2WRC and their

    Draconids Meteor Shower

Meteor scatter fans are reminded that the October Draconids meteor
shower peaks this weekend. It is a smaller and shorter lived shower
than the recent Perseids shower. However, even if you are not active on
meteor scatter, it is worth keeping an eye out for possible fireballs
visible in the night sky if you are out and about.

    GreenCube AMSAT Survey

GreenCube is an amateur satellite in medium earth orbit. It has an
on-board Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS) digipeater which has
proved to be very popular with amateur satellite operators globally. It
has the AMSAT designator Italy Oscar 117. S5 Labs based in Rome, Italy
is the team behind this. They have announced a survey seeking feedback
regarding experiences using GreenCube. The results will be presented in
the next International Astronautical Congress which will be held in
Baku, Azerbaijan next month. Every callsign and name included in the
survey will be acknowledged in the paper and presentation. The survey
is open until September 15th and may be found via their social media
    channels or www.s5lab.space

    Propagation Update

Over the coming day or two, there is a minor to moderate risk of a
short-lived radio blackout due to active sun regions that rotated into
Earth's view. However, HF conditions are expected to be generally good
with low noise otherwise. On VHF, after the good weather this weekend
and good lift conditions, the tropospheric ducting forecast indicates a
decline in tropo ducting in the first few days after this weekend.
