JOIN THE SARL AT THE HALF-YEAR RATE

Join the SARL and pay the half-year rate. The Council decided to institute
the half-year rate from Sunday 1 January 2023. Ordinary members pay R250
, senior members pay R150, spouse members pay R90 while student member
s pay R60.

The online membership application form is at www.sarl.org.za/public/member ship/join.asp, fill it in and do an EFT into the SARL bank account using
your call sign as the reference. E-mail your proof of payment to admin@sa rl.org.za (mailto:[email protected]) or call the SARL Office at 011 675 23

ICASA LICENSING AND RENEWAL NOTICES

ICASA has recently e-mailed out a renewal notice to all licence holders wh
ose licence is due to expire at the end of March 2023. To date, ICASA ha
s not updated the online system for renewals. So currently all licences th
at are due to expire cannot be updated via their online system. The SARL h
as written an e-mail to ICASA requesting details of the new fee structure
for 2023, for a one-to-five-year licence period. Once we receive the re
ply, the League will send out a notification giving details of the new f
ees for 2023. There is still over two months to go before the fees are due
, so there is plenty of time to finalise the payment process.

The SARL manages around 660 licences for amateur radio operators. Notifica
tion for renewal was also sent out to all these licence holders whose lice
nces are due to expire. These notifications have Noel, ZR6DX's name on t
he e-mail, however, these licences are in each individual licence hold
ers name. The only reason why Noel's name is on the e-mails is that he is
the appointed custodian for licencing done via the SARL. The SARL will e-
mail out a notification including detailed instruction, to all the licen
ce holders who are required to renew their licences. This will be complete
d as soon as the League has had the update from ICASA as to the fees struc
ture and when the system will be updated for renewals.

THE SANDTON POWER HOUR TECH TALK ON 26 JANUARY
We gave you a teaser last week and now it is time to get into the detail o
f the next Power Hour Tech Talk taking place this coming Thursday, 26 Ja
nuary 2023 at 19:00 CAT, with call-ins starting at 18:45 CAT. We have su cceeded in securing a presentation covering "Slot Antennas for Ham Radio"
by John, W6NBC. In fact, John has written a book on the subject, so
we are in very good hands. Bring along your desire to learn, or to cont
ribute your experience, as well as all your questions to find out all ab
out slot antennas.

The talk will take place via Zoom, giving you a full visual and audio ex perience. For those unable to join via Zoom, the audio will be relayed o
n to the 145.700 ZS6STN repeater as well as Echolink ZS6STN-R. Do you have

SARL HAMNET NEWS

On Sunday morning 15 January 2023, the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination
Centre requested SARL HAMNET Gauteng to deploy a team to assist with scen
e management of a light aircraft accident. Andries, ZS6KBS; Werner, ZS
6SAR and Hendrik, ZS6HPL responded to the accident scene at NASREC in Jo hannesburg South to assist with various duties from managing the scene,
keeping unauthorized persons from the site to assisting various rescue an
d law enforcement agencies and providing water to all personnel on site.

Even though no SARL HAMNET communication services were required on the day
, the team provided much needed support and collaboration to the managem
ent of the incident scene alongside other emergency agencies. We thank our
volunteers for responding and although the outcome was a tragic one, it
demonstrates that SARL HAMNET members are always ready to respond in a ti
me of need.

PROPAGATION REPORT

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low to moderate levels. There are currently eleven sunspots with si
mple to complex magnetic configurations visible. There is a high probabili
ty for C-class and a moderate probability for M-class solar flares. If you
want to do your own frequency predictions, the expected effective sunsp
ot number for the week will be around 158. The 10 to 30 m bands will provi
de some good DX fun. Also keep a look-out for 6 m openings. Please visit t

Sluit aan by die SARL en betaal die halfjaartarief. Die Raad het besluit o
m die halfjaartarief vanaf Sondag 1 Januarie 2023 in te stel. Gewone lede
betaal R250, senior lede betaal R150, gadelede betaal R90 terwyl stud
entelede R60 betaal.

ICASA-LISENSIE- EN HERNUWINGSKENNISGEWINGS

OKOSA het onlangs 'n hernuwingskennisgewing uitgestuur aan alle lisensieho
uers wie se lisensie aan die einde van Maart 2023 verval. Tot op hede het
OKOSA nie die aanlyn stelsel vir hernuwings opgedateer nie. So tans kan a
lle lisensies wat verval, nie via hul aanlyn stelsel opgedateer word nie
. Die SARL het 'n e-pos aan OKOSA geskryf waarin hulle besonderhede van di
e nuwe fooistruktuur vir 2023 versoek het, vir 'n lisensietydperk van ee
n tot vyf jaar. Sodra ons die antwoord ontvang het, sal die Liga 'n kenn isgewing uitstuur met besonderhede van die nuwe fooie vir 2023. Daar is no
g meer as twee maande om te gaan voordat die fooie betaalbaar is, so daa
r is genoeg tyd om die betalingsproses te finaliseer.

Die SARL bestuur ongeveer 660 lisensies vir amateur radio-operateurs. Kenn isgewing vir hernuwing is ook uitgestuur aan al hierdie lisensiehouers wie
se lisensies verval. Hierdie kennisgewings het Noel, ZR6DX se naam op d
ie e-pos, maar hierdie lisensies is in elke individuele lisensiehouer se
naam. Die enigste rede hoekom Noel se naam op die e-posse is, is dat hy
die aangestelde bewaarder is vir lisensiëring wat via die SARL gedoe
n word. Die SARL sal 'n kennisgewing met gedetailleerde instruksies e-pos
aan al die lisensiehouers wat vereis word om hul lisensies te hernu. Dit
sal voltooi word sodra die Liga die opdatering van ICASA ontvang het oor
die fooistruktuur en wanneer die stelsel opgedateer sal word vir hernuwin
gs.

SARL HAMNET NUUS

Op Sondagoggend 15 Januarie 2023 het die Lugvaart-reddingsko�Para.rdinerin gsentrum vir SARL HAMNET Gauteng versoek om 'n span te ontplooi om te help
met toneelbestuur van 'n ligte vliegtuigongeluk. Andries, ZS6KBS; Werne
r, ZS6SAR en Hendrik, ZS6HPL het op die ongelukstoneel by NASREC in Jo hannesburg-Suid gereageer om te help met verskeie pligte van die bestuur v
an die toneel, die behoud van ongemagtigde persone van die terrein tot b
ystand van verskeie reddings- en wetstoepassingsagentskappe en die verskaf
fing van water aan alle personeel op die terrein.

Al was geen SARL HAMNET-kommunikasiedienste op die dag benodig nie, het
die span broodnodige ondersteuning en samewerking verleen aan die bestuur
van die voorval toneel saam met ander noodagentskappe. Ons bedank ons vry willigers vir hul reaksie en hoewel die uitkoms 'n tragiese een was, too
n dit dat SARL HAMNET-lede altyd gereed is om te reageer in 'n tyd van noo
d.

HF VOORTPLANTINGSVOORSPELLING

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, berig dat die verwagte sonaktiwiteitsvlak laag
tot gematig gaan wees. Tans is daar elf sonvlekke met eenvoudige tot gevo rderde magnetiese samestellings sigbaar. Daar is 'n hoë waarskynlikhe
id vir die voorkoms van C-klas fakkels en 'n redelike waarskynlikheid vir
M-klas fakkels. Diegene wat hulle eie frekwensievoorspellings wil doen,
kan 'n verwagte effektiewe sonvlektelling van 158 vir die week gebruik. R
adio amateurs kan goeie DX openinge op die 10 tot 30 m bande verwag. 6 m k
