    For immediate release:

    Starting in August of 2022 and continuing into 2023, the Burlington Amat
    eur Radio Club will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.

    On November 11, 1972, the Burlington Amateur Radio Club (BARC) held it
    s charter meeting. The terms of that charter remain in effect to this day.

    "The Mission of the Burlington Amateur Radio Club is to use our network of
    technical resources for recruiting, training and assisting Amateur Radi
    o Operators as well as supporting the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARE
    S) by providing equipment and skilled operators for emergency communicatio
    ns services when called upon."

    The Club currently has 180 members. One of our founding members was Noel B eattie Eaton, VE3CJ (1910–1996), a grandson of Timothy Eaton.
    As a member of the Burlington Amateur Radio Club, Noel distinguished hi
    mself by becoming President Emeritus of the International Amateur Radio Un
    ion (IARU), and its President from 1974-1982. He served as American Radi
    o Relay League (ARRL) Canadian Division Director from 1960-1974. Our club
    continues to use his call sign VE3CJ for special events.

    The club supports advancement of the Amateur Radio Service by providing en couragement, training and testing for individuals who are looking for Ba
    sic Entry Level class instruction for the Amateur Radio certification as w
    ell as acquisition of their Advanced certification, through class and in dividual instruction and mentoring. During the pandemic, the club's inst ructors have taught classes via Zoom to individuals from all over Ontario
    and from as far away as Alberta, New Brunswick and Dubai.

    Call sign VC3CJ50 will be used for a Special Event station that will opera
    te from 14:00Z Friday November 11 to 23:00Z Saturday November 12, 2022.
    A commemorative Certificate will be sent electronically to those stations
    contacting our Special Event station.
