Lincoln Shortwave Club Chairman Steve M5ZZZ and David G1WVO travelled
across to East Kirkby this Thursday. After a convivial coffee in the NAAFI they opened the Radio room at East Kirkby.
Steve took his own Yeasu FT487 radio and connected it up and a
precautionary SWR check was carried out on the new wire antenna which
proved to be excellent.

It was amazing that as Steve then tuned through the bands there was no
apparent noise on the bands which we have been dogged with since reopening
the station after lockdown.
Steve and David heard only a few stations on 40 metres conditions seemed
very poor although Steve managed to work Craig M0OYH/P on 7.160 mhz.
located in South Yorkshire.
There was a constant stream of visitors through the radio room and Steve
and David spoke to many interested visitors.
Later in the morning they had a short break and a drink and watched the Lancaster and Mosquito taxy runs.
They then returned to the radio room, Steve changed bands and worked George
II3 WRTC in Veneto Italy with a 5/9 signal in both directions on 14.206 mhz.
Steve and David wonder if it would be a good idea to spend a day revamping
the shack wiring on the bench as it looks a little messy.
They are intending to open the station next month the date to be announced.
