Advertise your field day, post pictures of activities and discuss anything related to ARRL Field Day (FD) 2022 here. Comments will be sorted by new.
    What is ARRL Field Day?
Field Day is ham radios open house. Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radios science, skill and service to our
communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency
preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single
event. Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in ham radio.

    Digi mode for longer text?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2022 07:55 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vdnvbf/digi_mode_for_longer_text/

Ive been trying out FT8, and its pretty cool, but now Im wondering about
modes where you can send longer messages. Would any of these modes work
with the WSJT software, or do I need another program. If someone can point
me to a good resource where I can read up on it, itd be appreciated.

Anyone possess copies of the Raytheon GM114/A schematics or service manual?
I found a beautiful set at the local antique shop. But documentation online
is very sparse. Id hate to recap based on visual ID, in case I miss
something, or the markings have worn off. I tried r/vintageradios, but no bites. Technically it covers ham bands on receive so.... :) submitted

Diy shack in a box with SDR

    Posted: 16 Jun 2022 07:03 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vdmrb3/diy_shack_in_a_box_with_sdr/

With the falling cost of cheap electronic components these days, like
    Raspberry Pis, LimeSDR, amplifiers etc...
Would it be possible for somebody who is competent with electronics to skip
the "shack in a box" phase and just build my own HF VHF, UHF rig with the
    above components?
With current software options, could you replicate all the functionality of something like an IC-705, or would such a primitive build and open source software be severely lacking? submitted by /u/klintbeastwood10

Hf noise floor on battery vs power supply...?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2022 11:40 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vdfktz/hf_noise_floor_on_battery_vs_power_supply/

I had only been running my Yaesu ft-891 off battery power since first
getting started on hf in March of this year. Recently I upgraded to an
Ft-Dx10, and decided to get a power supply along with it.
A Samlex 1223 switching power supply turned out to be really noisy. Like a hissing, crashing ocean wave type noise every 15 to 20 seconds. My next
power supply is a linear Astron Rs-35. It doesnt have the ocean wave noise,
so I figured so far, so good.
But, when I switched back to battery power just to compare, my noise floor dropped. There was a dx station I could barely hear with the Astron
running, that became just enough of a bit more intelligible to work them on battery power.
Admittedly this is just one example, and Ive got more testing to do... But,
Im interested in your thoughts on whether running your hf rig from a good quality linear power supply will always be noisier than running on battery power.
Also, I can say with a fair amount of certainty that Im not dealing with
QRM from inside my house. There is a web sdr receiver not far from me, and their noise floor is always within one s unit of mine...
Anyway, Thanks in advance and 73! submitted by /u/VisualEyez33

Connecting radio to my PC monitor?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2022 09:21 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vdprnl/connecting_radio_to_my_pc_monitor/

Not sure if this is possible, but I dont really have space on my desktop
for two screens. I have a FTDX10, which can be connected to an external monitor, so heres what Im wondering: is there a way to connect it to my PC
or main monitor, and run it windowed? Basically, Id like to see my PCs
output and the radios output on one monitor. submitted by

    How to increase repeater traffic?

    Posted: 15 Jun 2022 05:51 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vd9fkb/how_to_increase_repeater_traffic/

As the title suggests, I’m looking for ways to increase our local repeater usage. I wouldn’t say we have the usual OM’s hanging out on the repeaters all day to come back to people, as I’ve noticed that helps a bit. We have a great repeater with excellent reach, and tons of people listen, but only listen. They’re not mike shy as they’ll check into our weekly nets, and I’ve made our repeater available via online stream (+ EchoLink node has
    been establish for decades+).
It just seems dead. Many repeaters in the area are quiet but in particular, ours is dead.
We host a weekly net, and sometimes you’ll get someone who’ll come back to you. I’m not one for rag chew myself, but I’m always happy to get on to come back to someone.
How would you go about drumming up traffic? submitted by /u/MrDrMrs

the PTT it will says TX-INHIB.

Setting CW mode default settings on an FT-891

    Posted: 15 Jun 2022 08:19 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/vdc8xl/setting_cw_mode_default_settings_on_an_ft891/

So, Im learning CW and trying to get more proficient at it. I could do a
SOTA spot if I had to, but thats the extent of it. Every time I switch to
CW mode, my width is all the way back up at 2400 Hz. Id like it to stay at 500Hz, where its easier to distinguish nearby signals. Is there a way to
set that bandwidth as default for CW mode? submitted by /u/NWRoamer

Why do many people want unlocked radios, specifically in GMRS range? Is
this just wanting freedom from the restrictions in place or is there

Right now on a budget I have $330 that I have for a radio, I have a Xiegu
g90 Radio I’m hoping I can get more power and a radio though, so should I sell my Xiegu radio, or should I just buy an amp for it or should I wait
and save my money up for a bigger radio, to be honest I would like to keep
my Xiegu g90 Radio I’ve worked approximately 2000 mile radio contact with
my Xiegu g90 Radio just using a CB radio antenna on my truck I reached

range (or even 77GHz). Ive been looking for a portable power meter,
preferably a handheld device, for some days now, without any luck.
Does anyone know of such a device?

h10-76 from work though and would like to figure out the wiring to build an adapter so I can use it on our rugged racing rdh radio. I realize there is
an impedance issue but any help is greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/oscartgrouch_
