Why does every LNA integrated circuit on Digikey have an open-collector
output, requiring complicated capacitors and inductors on the output?

https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ui7vqr/why_does_every_lna_integrated_circuit_on_digikey/
Hi there!
Ive used Minicircuits modules and such in the past. Now Id like to play
around with making my own radio board with an integrated LNA on the receive end, rather than plugging it in over SMA. What Id like to do is make a PCB
with an LNA and an in/out SMA jack. Then once I know that works, I can move that same circuit to be a sub-circuit on a radio board.
Im interested in operating in the UHF 70cm band, so I started searching Digikey. I went to RF Amplifiers, Active and In-Stock, gain of at least 19
dB (I want 20 but will compromise a bit) and Noise Figure below 2 dB. That
left 111 options. Then I sorted by price, and looked for one that goes to
UHF (most of them were in gigahertz, especially the GPS band at 1575 MHz).
So that brings me to this chip:
https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/infineon-technologies/BGB741L7ESDE6327XTSA1/2337827
If you look at the datasheet, its very confusing. Page 2 lists a block
diagram of how to use it, and says you need LB and LC biasing inductors,
but it doesnt say what their values need to be. Page 10 shows something similar, again without values.
We also have the R_ext resistor, which adjusts the current, but nowhere
does it mention how you actually choose that. Why would I want more
current? Does it result in more gain? I dont get it.
Am I just being dumb or is this datasheet sort of incomplete? Im a little confused on how to use this chip. submitted by /u/WaitForItTheMongols

I am testing it since march 2022. It works great. 4.4 Watts in 20 meters. I reached more than 16.000 Kilometers.ADX – Arduino Digital Transceiver

Airband HT serial remote frequency change
Posted: 04 May 2022 08:24 AM PDT
https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ui93aa/airband_ht_serial_remote_frequency_change/
I’m both a ham and a pilot - not asking anything regulatory Does anyone know of a small (probably HT, SDR would be fine too) radio capable of rx /
tx in the VHF airband AND capable of RS-232 remote ´control’? Eg ability to change frequency via RS-232.
Asking the Ham community because I am pretty sure this group is more knowledgeable and dialed in than any others. Thanks !! submitted by /u/hornetcoach

connecting to satellites

Sorry that this question is not specifically radio related but it does
relate to yall knowledge and expertise. I read a rumor that the upcoming iPhone14 could use the satellite network to send an emergency signal or a
text if there is no cell service. There is no way that Apple will add a
thick antenna to their phones because Apple is very obsessive on the
aesthetics of their products. Could the iPhone still be able to send an emergency signal to a satellite if it boosts the signal by using a lot of battery power? TIA submitted by /u/Jkg2116
