    VOTING FOR THE 2022 SARL AGM MOTIONS

    Thank you to the SARL Members who have already cast their votes for the 20
    22 SARL AGM motions. If you have not voted, there is still time until 23

    The first issue of Radio ZS was published in July 1947 and the July 2022 i
    ssue of Radio ZS will be a special 75th Anniversary issue. SARL Members an

    THE ZS-SOTA AUTUMN ACTIVITY DAY ON 2 MAY

    The Autumn ZS SOTA Day will be held on Monday 2 May (a public holiday) and
    this is a fun day out in nature and not a competition. Each participant w
    ill receive an Autumn Day certificate whether you activated or chased thos
    e activating summits. For activators, it is fun to see if you can make s ummit-to-summit (S2S) contacts with other activators and how many chasers
    you can get in your log. The SARL News Team is aware of 6 summits that wi
    ll be on the air on Monday.

    Please consider posting your activation times, so that chasers and other
    activators will know that you are activating a summit and at what time th
    ey must listen out for you. If you are not on the SOTA/POTA WhatsApp group
    and wish to be added, please send a WhatsApp message to Sid on mobile 0
    82 461 3279. Please join the fun of activating a summit or chasing those w

    THE MAY 2022 ISSUE OF RADIO ZS

    The May 2022 issue of Radio ZS is available for download from the SARL web
    page. You will find the 2021 SARL Awards and Trophies and the 2021/2022 S
    ARL Annual Report in this issue. We ask the question, have we created a
    Monster and what is noise. Then we look at young radio amateurs that ligh
    t up the air, the prepping for a balloon launch by the Jeugland ARC and
    a balloon launch by the Gloversville School club. There is a plan for a w ind-up tape measure transformed into a portable ham antenna and a look at
    grounding and bonding systems. In the Museum Piece, we look at James Cl
    erk Maxwell and his equations and the January 1926 issue of Radio. We visi
    t the Cooper Lighthouse and more in this issue.

    FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY TO HOST THE 45TH INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR RADIO EX HIBITION

    After a 2-year break, amateur radio fans will reunite on Lake Constance
    in Friedrichshafen, Germany, from 24 to 26 June for HAM RADIO, the
    45th International Amateur Radio Exhibition. Planning for Europe'
    s largest amateur radio exhibition is underway, this year's them
    e is "Seeing Friends Again." While amateurs were able to s
    tay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic, Deutscher Amateur Radio Club
    (DARC) Chairman Christian Entsfellner, DL3MBG said, "This is
    exactly what we have been missing over the past 2 years." He furt
    her explained, "Despite all the difficulties, this shows how v
    aluable and helpful the amateur radio operator community is. It is high ti
    me for personal contact again, with due attention to the safety of each
    individual, of course." More information on the 2022 HAM RADIO

    CONTEST NEWS

    It is almost time to switch on your valve radios for the first leg of the
    AWA Valve QSO Party. The AM QSO Party is run on Saturday 7 May and the SS
    B QSO Party on Sunday 8 May with phone activity on 40 and 80 metres.

    On Wednesday 11 May, you need to get up early to make coffee to enjoy wh
    ile you participate in the Early Morning Coffee QSO Party. The contest tak
    es place on 40 and 80 metres.

    And on Sunday, 15 May, it is time for South Africa to work as many sta
    tions in the Northern Cape as possible during the ZS3 QSO Party. Get all t
    he contest information in the 2022 Blue Book.

    Thirty logs were received for the ZS4 QSO Party held on Sunday 17 April. T
    he full set of results can be found in HF Happenings 993.

    PROPAGATION REPORT

    Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that solar activity is expected to be
    at moderate levels. There are currently nine sunspots with simple to comp
    lex magnetic configurations visible. There is a high probability for C-cla
    ss and medium probability for M-class flaring. If you want to do your own
    frequency predictions, the expected effective sunspot number for the we
    ek will be around 45. The 10 to 30 m bands will, especially late afterno

    k (S2S) kontakte kan maak met ander aktiveerders en hoeveel jagters jy in
    jou log kan kry. Die SARL Nuusspan is bewus van 6 pieke wat Maandag op di

    Oorweeg asseblief om jou aktiveringstye te plaas, sodat jagters en ander
    aktiveerders sal weet dat jy 'n piek aktiveer en hoe laat hulle vir jou m

    die Bodensee in Friedrichshafen, Duitsland, herenig vir HAM RADIO,
    die 45ste Internasionale Amateur Radio-uitstalling. Beplanning vir Europa
    se grootste amateur radio-uitstalling is aan die gang en vanjaar se tema
    is " Sien Vriende Weer." Terwyl amateurs tydens die COVID-19-pandemie ver
    bind kon bly, het Christian Entsfellner, DL3MBG, voorsitter van Deut
    scher Amateur Radio Klub (DARC), gesê: "Dit is presies wat ons oor
    die afgelope 2 jaar gemis het." Hy het verder verduidelik, "Ondanks al
    die probleme, demonstreer dit hoe waardevol en nuttig die amateur radio -operateur gemeenskap is. Dit is hoog tyd vir persoonlike kontak weer, m
    et die nodige aandag aan die veiligheid van elke individu, natuurlik." M

    Op Woensdag 11 Mei moet jy vroeg opstaan om koffie te maak om saam Vroe�
    � Oggendkoffie QSO-partytjie deelneem. Die kompetisie vind op 40 en 80 m
    eter plaas.

    En op Sondag 15 Mei is dit tyd vir Suid-Afrika om soveel moontlik stasies
    in die Noord-Kaap te werk tydens die ZS3 QSO Partytjie. Kry al die kompet isie-inligting in die 2022 Blou Boek.

    Dertig logstate is ontvang vir die ZS4 QSO-partytjie wat op Sondag 17 Apri
