SpaceX Crew 4 launch, mentioned ham band frequencies

    Posted: 27 Apr 2022 11:50 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/udata9/spacex_crew_4_launch_mentioned_ham_band/

So i was just watching the recording of the Crew 4 launch live stream and
was surprised to see at one point in the cast the host said that you could listen in to the launch coverage on the following frequencies. Then showed
on screen that it was VHF 146.940 and UHF 444.925.
This is clearly amateur band and so i was wondering if that was normal or a mistake or what. Anyone catch that?!
You can see it on the stream at about T-16:20 before launch. submitted

How do bands best times (day / night) translate to northern (or southern latitudes) w/ midnight sun or darkness?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2022 05:12 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/udhuvo/how_do_bands_best_times_day_night_translate_to/

So, Im newish to HF. Ive mostly been on VHF and UHF. Anyway, I live in
Alaska and we are coming up on the midnight sun. From what Ive read, some
HF bands are better during the day or night. Im sorry I cant remember which
are better at what time. If its midnight but there is still sunshine, would
I have the same performance as if it was 4pm or do I need to think about
the rest of the worlds sunshine? submitted by /u/thehotshotpilot

Hi r/amateurradio, Im a new HAM, I have my tech license, and I plan on
getting my general and extra this summer. One of the things I plan to build
my own radio modules for some telemetry projects. Does anyone have tips for building and testing HAM equipment?
I know the HAM community is super self-regulating, and I dont want to break
any conventions. I appreciate any help you can provide, and Id love to hear about your experiences. Thanks! submitted by /u/FreshScorpian

8 pin mic connector part number?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2022 05:40 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/udidyr/8_pin_mic_connector_part_number/

What is the actual part number for the threaded 8 pin microphone connector commonly found on older Icon and Yaesu sets? Ive seen it called a GX16 and
that seems to be correct but you can only buy them on eBay or Alibaba. Id
love to be able to buy the actual connector on somewhere like Digikey.
There is a 6 pin GX16 on Digikey from Sparkfun but theres no other GX16
series connectors on there. I want to make an adapter and would prefer to
buy everything I need on Digikey. I saw someone say that its an XLR but
those typically arent threaded. I did find some service manuals that call
the male plug FM214-8SS but the only other search results for it are for
    Icon and Yaesu service manuals.
Edit: Thanks everyone. I ended up finding an adapter on DXE that is exactly what I need (GX16 to 1/8" socket for mic input) for a price thats hard to
beat if I made it myself. submitted by /u/filthy_harold

    Yaesu FT5DR - Not impressed

    Posted: 27 Apr 2022 12:54 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/udc8vn/yaesu_ft5dr_not_impressed/

The receiver is deaf as a post, and when you end up getting something its
so hard to hear with the lousy speaker you might have been better off not hearing it. I am also picking up tons of noise even with the squelch at
100%. Not a problem I experience with any of my other radios.
I picked it up because I wanted something for digital and a few extra
features to play around with but its simply not worth keeping around. Less
than 24 hours later its going back. submitted by /u/Altruistic-Radish-17

Need help sourcing a part for my KSC-25LS charging base

    Posted: 27 Apr 2022 05:30 PM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/udi76o/need_help_sourcing_a_part_for_my_ksc25ls_charging/

Hey there. Was wondering if you fine folks could do a better job than my apparently wack Google-fu.
Im looking for the DC jack part number for the KSC-25LS charging base for
my TH-D74. The only service manuals I can seem to find are for the KSC-25
and KSC-25L, both of which have different part numbers for JK1. The 25L
board looks like it has the same jack pin footprint as my LS charger, but I cant be sure. Best I can tell, Im on the look out for part number
E03-0466-08 for the DC jack, but that looks like its been discontinued.
Maybe someone has an idea of a replacement equivalent part? It would be a
damn waste to have to bin this charger, as it works perfectly fine aside
from this little bitty part, and could easily be repaired in 30 seconds if
I just had a functionally equivalent jack to solder onto the board.

    Icom IC-740 Final Driver question

    Posted: 27 Apr 2022 07:52 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ud5erm/icom_ic740_final_driver_question/

    Hi All,
I have a icom IC740 that I got on ebay and it runs great but I am the type
of person that likes to collect parts for future repair issues. I have
already bought front panel knobs, capacitor replacement kits, etc...etc...,
but I am not able to find much out about the final drivers.
I was wondering if someone knew what these were... I found the IC-735
drivers were C1971 transistors but wanted to make sure those were
    compatible with the 740.
    Thanks for any info.

    Daisy-Chaining (?) Duplexers

    Posted: 27 Apr 2022 04:25 AM PDT https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/ud19q6/daisychaining_duplexers/

    Hello!
My school’s amateur radio club that I’m a part of has four primary repeater systems; a DMR repeater on 70cm, an analog 70cm repeater, a 2M analog
repeater, and recently an APRS digipeater on 144.390. As we have limited
space for antennas and coax runs are expensive (need roughly 100ft for our smallest run to the closest antenna), we were curious about the possibility
of “daisy chaining duplexers” to run our 70cm repeater and digipeater off of the same antenna.
For a better description, we purchased a 2M/70CM vertical for our
digipeater, since it was what was available, and is now fully installed
with coax run. Our 70cm analog repeater needs an antenna and coax run,
neither of which have been purchased yet. Given the circumstances, we were wondering about the feasibility of having a 144/440 duplexer at the end of
that coax, with the 144 end going to the digipeater, and the 440 end going
to the repeater’s independent duplexer (for full duplex transmission within 440) and from there going to the repeater.
I can’t see anything inherently impossible about this, but I wanted to ask around to see if I’m missing something. Any thoughts? submitted by /u/MerkaMatt
