VOTING FOR THE 2022 SARL AGM MOTIONS

The electronic voting for the 2022 SARL AGM motions will open at 00:01 CAT
on Monday 25 April and close at 23:59 CAT on Wednesday 4 May 2022. There
are six motions to vote for, starting with Motion 2. Motion 1 was the e lectronic voting for the 2021 Annual Financial Statements. Visit www.sarl .org.za/Web3/ElectronicVoting/Default.aspx to vote. You need to click on t
he box "I confirm that I have read and fully understand the Motion
s listed above" and then sign in with your call sign and password.
The voting options are "Yes" or "No" or
"Abstain." Follow the instructions on the voting page and
submit your vote. You will receive an e-mail confirming that you have vot

THE ITU CELEBRATES 2022 WORLD AMATEUR RADIO DAY

In recognition of World Amateur Radio Day, held on 18 April, the Inter
national Telecommunication Union (ITU) published articles and social media
posts highlighting various facets of amateur radio. This included an ITU
News interview with Philipp Springer, DK6SP, Chairman of the IARU Reg
ion 1 Youth Working Group and the article "How to become a radio 'ham' in
the digital era," by Nick Sinanis, SV3SJ, ITU Study Group Advisor a
nd head of the ITU radio station, 4U1ITU. Philipp Springer is also featu
red in an ITU video on YouTube. In his article, Nick Sinanis explained t
hat "ITU plays a key role in amateur radio by overseeing the standardizati
on and regulatory processes of the radiocommunication sector (ITU-R), wi
th special emphasis on its utility in emergency communications."

THE SARL AGM WAS HELD YESTERDAY SATURDAY 23 APRIL

The 2022 SARL AGM was opened at 10:00 CAT yesterday Saturday 23 April by N
ico, ZS6QL the President of the SARL. The AGM could be held with 252 reg istrations and proxies received by the start of the meeting. The minutes o
f the 2021 SARL AGM was approved whereafter Nico, ZS6QL presented the Pr esidents Report for the past year. Chris, ZS6GM presented the Financial
report. The various motions were discussed and the new Council for 2022/2
023 was named.

Nico, ZS6QL talked about the IARU Region 1 Shaping the Future programme
and Dave, ZS2DH gave an overview of the work being done on the news SAR
L web site. Dennis, ZS4BS announced the SARL Awards and Trophies for 202
1. The meeting closed at 12:55. The 2022 SARL Annual Report can be downloa
ded from the front page of the League web site.

CLUB NEWS

What is happening today? You should be visiting the Klipriviersberg Nature
Reserve (ZSFF-0192), where you can participate in hiking, bird watchi
ng, photography, a social with friends, family and fellow amateurs a
nd most importantly, the next Sandton ARC Fox hunt and some outdoor radi
o fun. We will meet at the main entrance complex opposite 129 Peggy Vera R
oad, Kibler Park at 09:45 CAT for a Fox Hunt briefing and will start the
hunt together at 10:00 CAT. Entrance to the reserve is free. There is sec
ure parking available, you can picnic in the reserve or at the entrance
, where you will also find toilet facilities and picnic spots. Braaiing
is permitted at the entrance complex.

need to join the Talking Tech Power Hour on Wednesday evening, where ou
r special guest, Leon Uys, ZR6N will be discussing quick and easy thin
gs you can do today to reduce noise in your shack and a few you should not

CONTEST NEWS

The second leg of the SARL Saturday 40 m Club Contest will run from 14:00
to 15:00 UTC on Saturday 30 April with CW, phone and RTTY activity. The
exchange is a RS, RST or RSQ report, your Club name and your 4 charac
ter grid square. You earn three points for a CW and RTTY QSO and two point
s for a phone QSO. Then you earn two points for each new grid square worke
d and one point for each new Club worked. Submit your log by 21:59 UTC on
Thursday 5 May to [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) . Read
the definition of a single operator in the General Rules in the 2022 Blue
Book.

Nine logs were received for the autumn leg of the SARL QRP Contest.

1st Johannes van Zijl, ZS4DZ - 144 points
2nd the West Rand ARC, ZS6WR -132 points
3rd Anthony Williams, ZS6WT - 126 points

Twenty logs were received for the SARL 80 Meter QSO party run on Thursday
7 April 2022. The bands seemed to be reasonably clear except for the East
ern part of KwaZulu-Natal. The results were delayed due to the flooding in
KZN, which had caused major damage to the electrical supply to major pa
rts of the area.

From the logs received, it was determined that 31 amateurs participated

PROPAGATION REPORT

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at moderate levels. There are currently six sunspots with simple to co mplex magnetic configurations visible. There is a high probability for C-
and M-class flaring. If you want to do your own frequency predictions,
the expected effective sunspot number for the week will be around 76. The
10 to 30 m bands will especially late afternoon, provide some good DX f

DIE ITU VIER 2022 WÊRELD AMATEUR RADIO DAG

Ter erkenning van Wêreld Amateur Radio Dag wat op 18 April gehou is
, het die Internasionale Telekommunikasie-unie (ITU) artikels en sosiale
-media plasings gepubliseer wat verskeie fasette van amateur radio uitlig.
Dit is 'n ITU Nuus-onderhoud met Philipp Springer, DK6SP, voorsitter
van die IARU Streek 1-Jeug Werkgroep en die artikel "Hoe om 'n radio amat
eur in die digitale era te word," deur Nick Sinanis, SV3SJ ITU-Studieg
roep adviseur en hoof van die ITU-radiostasie, 4U1ITU. Philipp Springer
verskyn ook in 'n ITU-video op YouTube. In sy artikel het Nick Sinanis ve rduidelik dat "ITU 'n sleutelrol in amateur radio speel deur toesig te hou
oor die standaardisering en regulatoriese prosesse van die radio kommunik asie-sektor (ITU-R), met spesiale klem op die nut daarvan in noodkommuni kasie."

DIE SARL AJV IS GISTER SATERDAG 23 APRIL GEHOU

Die 2022 SARL AJV is gister om 10:00 SAT Saterdag 23 April geopen deur Nic
o, ZS6QL die President van die SARL. Die AJV kon gehou word met 252 regi strasies en volmagte wat teen die begin van die vergadering ontvang is. Di
e notule van die 2021 SARL AJV is goedgekeur waarna Nico, ZS6QL die Pres idents-verslag vir die afgelope jaar aangebied het. Chris, ZS6GM het die
Finansiële verslag aangebied. Die verskillende mosies is bespreek en
die nuwe Raad vir 2022/2023 is aangewys.

Nico, ZS6QL het gesels oor die IARU Streek 1 Vorm die Toekoms-program en
Dave, ZS2DH het 'n oorsig gegee van die werk wat gedoen word op die nuu
s SARL-webwerf. Dennis, ZS4BS het die SARL-toekennings en -trofeë v
ir 2021 aangekondig. Die vergadering het om 12:55 gesluit. Die 2022 SARL J aarverslag kan van die voorblad van die Liga-webwerf afgelaai word.
