THE SARL AGM ON SATURDAY 23 APRIL

The 2022 SARL Annual General Meeting will start at 10:00 CAT on Saturday 2
3 April 2022 on the Bluejeans platform - you can attend from your home. Yo
u need to register to get a link to join the AGM, visit the front page o
f the SARL website to register. Also download the AGM Booklet which contai
ns the programme for the day, including the proposed budget and membersh
ip fees for 2022/2023, the two motions for discussion, and a proposal
to host the 2023 SARL National Convention. If you cannot attend, please
complete a proxy form and submit it to the SARL Secretary. You can find t
he AGM Booklet and the proxy form on the front page of the website.

Of the 1 648 SARL Members, only 47 have registered by Friday 8 April. Th
e Secretary has received no proxy forms yet. For the AGM to be held, 165
registrations and proxies are required. Register today!

CANADIAN SPECIAL CALL SIGNS IN HONOUR OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II'S PLAT
INUM JUBILEE

In honour of Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years on the throne (her Plat
inum Jubilee), Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (IS
ED) has approved the use of special call signs for Canadian amateurs from
15 May to 14 July 2022. These dates correspond with the busy early summer
operating season and will be available to all Canadian amateurs who wish
to use the special call signs on all occasions, including the RAC Canad
a Day Contest and the IARU World Championship.

GET ON THE AIR FOR WORLD AMATEUR RADIO DAY

Monday 18 April is World Amateur Radio Day. It is also a public holiday en
ding the Easter Weekend. It was on 18 April 1925 that the International Am ateur Radio Union (IARU) was founded during the International Radiotelegra
ph Conference in Paris. That is why radio amateurs worldwide celebrate thi
s day with special activities every year.

The SARL will issue a WARD Certificate to radio amateurs who make QSOs fro
m 16:00 UTC on Thursday 14 April to 18:00 UTC on Monday 18 April - the who
le Easter weekend, including the ZS4 QSO Party on 17 April! Work as many
radio amateurs as possible during the weekend, PLUS at least two (2) SA
RL Councilors (there are 10) and at least three (3) Radio Club stations,
excluding your own Club station! Send your application for the 2022 WARD
Certificate to by 21:59 UTC on Thursday 21 April 2022. Jan, ZT4T will b
e active on 18 April on 7,100 and 3,700 MHz.

THE AUTUMN ZS-SOTA DAY ON 2 MAY

Sid Tyler, ZS5AYC the ZS-SOTA Association Manager says the Autumn ZS SOT
A Day will be held on Monday 2 May (a public holiday). For those planning
on activating a summit, it is time to look at which summit you are goin
g to activate and your planned activation times. This is a fun day out in
nature and not a competition, each participant will receive an Autumn D
ay certificate whether you activated or chased those activating summits. F
or activators, it is fun to see if you can make summit-to-summit (S2S) c ontacts with other activators and how many chasers you can get in your log
.

Please consider posting your activation times, so that chasers and other
activators will know that you are activating a summit and at what time th
ey must listen out for you. If you are not on the SOTA/POTA WhatsApp group
and wish to be added please sent a WhatsApp message to Sid on mobile numb
er 082 461 3279. Please join the fun of activating a summit or chasing tho
se who venture out.

First-time activators, if you need assistance or advice, please don�
-(tm)t hesitate to ask for advice. We have two teams from the South Coast
of KZN who will activate summits. Details will be posted closer to the ti
me on the WhatsApp group. Here are a few stats for the 2021 Spring SOTA Da
y held on 24 September 2021: nine activators activated five summits; the A ctivators were supported by one hundred and eight chasers and one hundred
and eighty-eight QSOs were made. Six of the activators made summit to sum
mit contacts.

CLUB NEWS

What is happening on Sunday 24 April? It is the day you should be putting
in your diary to visit the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve (ZSFF-019 for F
auna and Flora), where you can take part in hiking, bird watching, p hotography, a social with friends, family, and fellow amateurs, an
d most importantly, the next Sandton Fox hunt and some outdoor radio fun
.

We will meet at the main entrance complex opposite 129 Peggy Vera Road,
Kibler Park, at 09:45 CAT for a Fox Hunt briefing, and will start the
hunt together at 10:00 CAT. Entrance to the reserve is free. There is sec
ure parking available, you can picnic in the reserve or at the entrance
, where you will also find toilet facilities and picnic spots. Braaiing
is permitted at the entrance complex.

PROPAGATION REPORT

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, reports that the solar activity is expected to
be at low levels. There are currently four sunspots with simple magnetic
configurations visible. There is a good chance of C-class and a slight ch
ance of M-class flaring. If you want to do your own frequency predictions
, the expected effective sunspot number for the week will be around 61.
The 10 to 30 m bands will provide some good DX fun. For more information

Die 2022 SARL Algemene Jaarvergadering begin om 10:00 SAT op Saterdag 23 A
pril 2022 op die Bluejeans-platform en jy kan dit vanuit jou huis bywoon.
Jy moet registreer om 'n skakel te kry om by die AJV aan te sluit. Besoek
die voorblad van die SARL-webwerf om te registreer. Laai ook die AJV-boek
ie af wat die program vir die dag bevat, insluitend die voorgestelde beg
roting en ledegeld vir 2022/2023, die twee mosies vir bespreking en 'n v oorstel om die 2023 SARL Nasionale Konvensie aan te bied. Indien jy nie ka
n bywoon nie, voltooi asseblief 'n volmagvorm en dien dit in by die SARL
Sekretaris. Die AJV-boekie en die volmagvorm kan op die voorblad van die
web gevind word.

Van die 1 648 SARL-lede het slegs 47 teen Vrydag 8 April geregistreer. Die
Sekretaris het nog geen volmagvorms ontvang nie. Vir die AJV om gehou te

JUBILEE

Ter ere van koningin Elizabeth II se 70 jaar op die troon (haar Platinum J ubilee), het Innovasie, Wetenskap en Ekonomiese Ontwikkeling Kanada (I
SED) die gebruik van spesiale roepseine vir Kanadese amateurs vanaf 15 Mei
tot 14 Julie 2022 goedgekeur. Hierdie datums stem ooreen met die besige v roeë somer kompetisie en sal beskikbaar wees vir alle Kanadese amateu
rs wat die spesiale roepseine by alle geleenthede wil gebruik, insluiten
d die RAC Kanada Dag kompetisie en die IARU Wêreldkampioenskap.

KOM OP DIE LUG VIR WÊRELD AMATEUR RADIO DAG

Maandag 18 April is Wêreld Amateur Radio Dag. Dit is ook 'n openbare
vakansiedag wat die Paasnaweek eindig. Dit was op 18 April 1925 dat die I nternasionale Amateur Radio-unie (IARU) tydens die Internasionale Radio Te legraaf konferensie in Parys gestig is. Daarom vier radio amateurs wê
reldwyd hierdie dag elke jaar met spesiale aktiwiteite.

Die SARL sal 'n WARD-sertifikaat uitreik aan radio amateurs wat QSOs maak
vanaf 16:00 UTC op Donderdag 14 April tot 18:00 UTC op Maandag 18 April
, die hele Paasnaweek en insluitend die ZS4 QSO-partytjie op 17 April! W
erk soveel radio amateurs as moontlik gedurende die naweek, PLUS ten min
ste twee (2) SARL Raadslede (daar is 10) en ten minste drie (3) Radio klub stasies, jou eie Klubstasie uitgesluit! Stuur jou aansoek vir die 2022 W ARD-sertifikaat na [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) te
en 21:59 UTC op Donderdag 21 April 2022. Jan, ZT4T sal aktief wees op 18

DIE HERFS ZS-SOTA DAG OP 2 MEI

Sid Tyler, ZS5AYC die ZS-SOTA Verenigings-bestuurder sê die Herfs Z
S SOTA-dag sal op Maandag 2 Mei ('n openbare vakansiedag) gehou word. Vir
diegene wat beplan om 'n piek te aktiveer, is dit tyd om te begin kyk n
a watter piek jy gaan aktiveer en jou beplande aktiverings-tye. Hierdie is
'n lekker dag uit in die natuur en nie 'n kompetisie nie. Elke deelnemer
sal 'n Herfsdag-sertifikaat ontvang indien jy daardie pieke geaktiveer of
gejaag het. Vir aktiveerders is dit pret om te sien of jy piek-tot-piek (
S2S) kontakte kan maak met ander aktiveerders en hoeveel jagters jy in jou
log kan kry.

Oorweeg asseblief om jou aktiverings-tye te plaas, sodat jagters en ande
r aktiveerders [DEL: sal :DEL] kan weet dat jy 'n piek aktiveer en hoe la
at hulle vir jou moet luister. As jy nie op die SOTA/POTA WhatsApp-groep i
s nie en bygevoeg wil word, stuur asseblief 'n WhatsApp-boodskap aan Sid
op selfoon 082 461 3279. Sluit asseblief aan by die pret om 'n piek te ak tiveer of om diegene wat dit waag, te jaag.

Eerste keer aktiveerders, as jy hulp of raad benodig, moet asseblief n
ie huiwer om raad te vra nie. Ons het twee spanne van die Suidkus van KZN
wat pieke gaan aktiveer. Besonderhede sal nader aan die tyd op die WhatsA pp-groep geplaas word. Hier is 'n paar statistieke vir die 2021 Lente SOTA
-dag wat op 24 September 2021 gehou is: vyf pieke is deur nege aktiveerder
s geaktiveer; die aktiveerders is ondersteun deur honderd-en-agt jaers en
honderd-agt-en-tagtig QSOs is gemaak. Ses van die aktiveerders piek-tot-p
iek kontakte gemaak.

Hannes Coetzee, ZS6BZP, berig dat die verwagte sonaktiwiteitsvlak laag
gaan wees. Tans is daar vier sonvlekke met eenvoudige magnetiese samestel lings sigbaar. Daar is 'n hoë waarskynlikheid vir C-klas en 'n gering
e kans vir M-klas sonfakkels. Diegene wat hulle eie frekwensievoorspelling
s wil doen, kan 'n verwagte effektiewe sonvlektelling van 61 vir die wee
