Got bored of UHF/VHF - will HF be better?

I got into amature radio a few years ago. I threw an antenna up on my roof
and got a UHF/VHF radio. There are two repeaters in my area but after a
    while I just got bored.
There wasnt many people to talk to, and it was always boring conversations about the weather, or how Bob was mowing his back garden again. Soon the
hobby fizzled out and I sold my gear. Im in the UK.
For some reason I have the itch to play around gain. Maybe this time HF is
the answer. Im tempted to get an icom 7300 and string up an EFHW out the
window and down the garden. But, Im a bit worried in two weeks time I will
    get bored.
What do you think, will dropping £1,400 be a complete waste of money, or
will I find a life changing hobby that will change my life forever? 🤔 submitted by /u/Hoban_Riverpath

In the USA, under the FCC regulations, those holding a Technician-class license, or higher, can transmit voice, SSB (USB in this case; Upperside
Band) on the 10m band, from 28.300 to 28.500 MHz. There are more options,
but voice is working whenever the F10.7-cm Radio Flux exceeds 95. #ham #ARRL

    Great Olivia Chat - EI9FV QSO with NW7US, 20m - 14.1085 Center frequency,
with Olivia 1000/32 (that is 32 tones, 1000 Hz bandwidth). Olivia is one of
the BEST (technically) HF DXing Chat (keyboard to keyboard) Digital HF
    Modes.

    HF GCS activity (8.992 MHz)

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 04:01 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/sz2j74/hf_gcs_activity_8992_mhz/

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has heard an uptick in military HF
activity, what with current events and all. I’ve monitored 8992 on and off
in the past and alway heard nothing, but today received an EAM type message from a station with call sign POOL HALL.
Maybe they are more common then I figured, but still a little creepy to
listen to one live. submitted by /u/ethanSLC

Hello FM Satellite Operators, Got a minute?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 12:32 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/syxjff/hello_fm_satellite_operators_got_a_minute/

Im hoping that calling specifically for FM satellite operators doesnt
narrow the audience down too far. Im looking for any recommendations for
fixed position satellite antennas. My primary goals would be to be able to operate FM voice through satellites like SO-50, and start playing around
with what is available for licensed amateurs involving the international
    space station.
To date, all of the QSOs and experiments I have had involving satellites
have been done using a home made Yagi of WA5VJB (Kent Britain of AMSAT)s design. I first built and used this antenna before I was licensed to listen
to QSOs during SO-50 passes. Link to the instructions here: https://www.wa5vjb.com/references/Cheap%20Antennas-LEOs.pdf
Its cheap, easy to build and works well. Unfortunately though, you have to stand outside and point it at the sky, or mount it on a rotor, which I dont have. What I am looking for is something that I can still operate with
reliably without having to stand outside, or set up a rotor and control, if that is possible.
Ive found these, but they also require a bias-t device which costs extra. https://www.antennas.us/store/p/391-UC-AMSAT-KIT-2-m-/-70-cm-Amateur-Satellite-Antenna-Kit.html?feed=Froogle
Im also not convinced this is what I want, so at this point, it makes sense
to me to ask satellite operators from reddit for your input. Im not against building something, and I do have somewhat of an experimental antenna that
I will be continuing to work on and test out, but in the meantime. What do
    you use for satellite operation?

Thanks in advance. 73 (Callsign redacted because reddit) submitted by /u/Steve_but_different

How to connect iPhone/radios audio directly to computer for SSTV?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 03:13 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/sz1gnr/how_to_connect_iphoneradios_audio_directly_to/

I’m getting more into SSTV and would rather directly connect my phone or radio’s audio connection to my laptop so I can use MMSSTV, but not sure how other than connecting an aux cable from the radio to my computer’s microphone. submitted by /u/joe_rt
