Hi I’m appearing for the licensing exam in india. I’m struggling with Q codes. Any tips on how to memorise them quickly? Struggling a bit with the electronics part as well but I guess there can’t be any shortcuts in
    that. submitted by /u/arghyaghosh0104

Coax for DIY HT UHF antenna UK

    Posted: 09 Jan 2022 03:42 AM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rzpyc5/coax_for_diy_ht_uhf_antenna_uk/

I have experimented with making feeder lines and antenna for a scanner with some success. Now I want to go further with my new HT on UHF. Finding it surprisingly hard to source decent coax in the UK. High Street retailers
sell rubbish, eBay let me down with poor sheilded RG58, (even had stranded core, whats that about!) So where do you source decent RG58 or better? I
have an eye on a Bazooka antenna design on YouTube that I want to
    attempt. submitted by /u/Bob_Dobalina1969

2021 events in which ham operators helped first responders

    Posted: 08 Jan 2022 05:13 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rzfkot/2021_events_in_which_ham_operators_helped_first/

I’m doing a write up for the local agriculture group on amateur radio and wanted to compile a quick list of 2021 events in which ham radio operators helped in emergency situations - more focused on helping emergency
responders and officials communicate during emergencies anything. Does
anyone have any examples of if happening this year?
I’ll scan in a copy of the final product once it’s done. I’m also doing some writing on farm radio use and digital repeaters. submitted by /u/NDakotaFarmer

I want to use my FTM400 for digital indoors but don't want to setup an
    antenna outside

    Posted: 08 Jan 2022 04:16 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rzec8t/i_want_to_use_my_ftm400_for_digital_indoors_but/

Ive been burning through batteries on my FT5D HT. I have a FTM400 and would LOVE to use it indoors to work digital to my hotspot only. I dont have
access to the attic and this will be exclusively for my hotspot use until
    we move locations.
Is there any special antenna I can use exclusively for working digital from
my FTM400 to my hotspot? I would only be using UHF on lowest power settings. What would be the most ideal antenna setup for this type of situation? submitted by /u/nashosted

Refresher so I can assist someone studying for exam?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2022 07:54 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rzipnj/refresher_so_i_can_assist_someone_studying_for/

A friend reached out expressing interested in obtaining his ticket. He had
a number of questions and I want to be as helpful as possible. I’m
realizing the tech exam has evolved quite a bit and I don’t have
explanations for every topic any longer.
Any thoughts on a refresher for long time licensees to help out newcomers
to the hobby? I could read the Q&A pool, but though there might be a more comprehensive manner short of buying a new license study manual while
faster than reading a modern ARRL Handbook. 😉 submitted by /u/doa70

    Grounding question for mobile install.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2022 03:34 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rzde1q/grounding_question_for_mobile_install/

I purchased both the Yaesu FT-891 and FTM-300D and plan to practice the
hobby from a vehicle. Both come with over 6 feet of DC power cable fused. I know that it is recommended to connect directly to the battery for the
positive side, but they supply the same length for grounding. I’m torn in
my understanding about keeping grounds as short as possible and just using
the full length and grounding to the chassis at the same point as the car battery is. Wouldn’t this prevent ground loops? submitted by /u/Stargazer12am

    Question About Amplifiers

    Posted: 08 Jan 2022 07:10 PM PST https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/comments/rzhvqy/question_about_amplifiers/

Really stupid question but I was wondering why someone cant just use a car amplifier in lieu of a normal amplifier intended for Amateur Radio use.
This is the amplifier I was questioning as to why someone cant use it for
ham purposes, with modifications, of course, or any other nonspecific amplifier.
