Your snickering doesn't translate well to the US colonies. It took me a
    minute to figure it out.

There is a pop song from the 1970's by the group Pilot, called "Magic".
I think a major part of the song's popularity then was from the wankers
that misheard the lyric. (Did you see what I did there?)

Translates fine to most of the other colonies.

What doesn't translate so well is "somebody drove past in their car
honking at me" , which appears to have a unique connotation in the USA ;- )

I still get confused by americans using the word Ass, what exactly do they mean.
An ass as in a donkey or a jackass a stupid person or an Arse, which is what people site on and where shit comes
out of in which case the term in the UK is referred to as an Arse hole.

I remmeber that song just about, but don't think I ever hisheard anything. Maybe I was too young, tried playing it again and still nothing.
    Wasn't my sort of music.

    'Arse'
    'Arsehole' (one word).

There is only a tenuous connection between the animal and the word
'arse' which derives from German/Dutch/Norse for buttocks of any animal.

The USA usage seems to be derived (like so many other words, spelling,
and misuse) from mispronunciation or mishearing/misunderstanding of the original term.

There was a young girl from Madras
    Had a truly magnificent ass.
    Not rounded and pink,
    As you possibly think,
But was grey, had long ears, and ate grass.

    That's my theory anyway ....

Yes on TV shows the word ass is used quite a bit , I'm really sure what it;s refering to
    unless is a kardashians ass.
