I would like to find a used Gibson j-50 and have tried a few. They
are all very different! I like the round shoulder older models, but
even among them they vary widely. Some real quiet, some with real
narrow necks, some with real BIG necks (too big). I haven't found one
that has good volume and tone yet, but I do see that some people use
them. Tim O'Brien plays one, for example. What do folks "in the
know" know about finding a good one?
I've got a 1973 J-50. It is beautiful. When I bought it there were two J-50's in the shop. One played really good ... The best playing acoustic guitar I had ever laid my hands on. The other one while sounding as good played horribly. The action was
really high and the neck didn't fit my hand right. This was my senior year in high school. I like that to be a lesson for everyone looking for a guitar acoustic electric no matter. Every one is a little different. Go out there and play one till you get
the one that feels right. I will buy an amplifier over the internet if I find one I like in a store. With guitars. If you find one that plays right take it home...
