Yudina is one of the very few who
makes music out of the first and
    last movement.

    Yudina is extremely heavy handed.
If one likes Marias, Grinberg is far
    better.

HJ Lim makes more music out of
    every Hammerklavier note than all
the others combined. She is the
only pianist I have ever heard who
    makes the Hammerklavier sound
    spontaneous and improvised on
    the spot, rather than exercised,
    practiced, ruminated, studied
    and czernycated.

The last time I listened to anything by her it was Scriabin op 11 preludes, which was some how introspective (maybe the way she plays, the selection or even the crap sound - hard to say.)

Yudina was no Scriabinist. She had no imagination.
She was a strict, heavy handed literalist, incapable
of any color, texture or phrasing. The very worst the
Russian piano school produced, almost as bad as
    Arrau, Ney and Backhaus.

The book was a bit too journalistic for me, I'm not sure I would ever want to read about her life, no matter how rich and eventful.

But more positively, here's a good Hammer you may like as much as Yudina -- Pollini in Paris in 2009

I liked some of Pollini's early recordings,
from 1960 until roughly 1980. At the time
he sounded like a slightly warmer LTMSFI
    than Lipatti.

Then he started to dry up, becoming more
and more literalist and "intellectual". By the
early 2000s he had become a czernycator.

I just think he was particularly inspired that night in 2009 in Salle Playel - give it a shot.
