The recent thread on Ian Bostridge got me to thinking about the
various recordings of Winterreise I have heard and seen over the
years. Seen - bar none Fischer-Dieskau who I saw more than once and
remains the most moving I have ever seen.
Heard - the first one I heard was the 62 EMI Fiscer-Dieskau which
remained my favorite til I heard the 54 Hotter. Since then I have
heard and own the three other Hotter commercial releases = the wartime
with Rauchheisen, the DG steero remake and the live Japan. For me the
stereo DG, even with the key transpostions and all the rest is the
most overwhelming. I have heard many interpreters on record since then
and none has matched him. Wagner Fan
