Not to my taste I'm afraid, although the baritone soloist is very good indeed. It's noticeable how little most of the orchestra have to play in the 1900 edition, apart from the violas and cellos, whose beautiful tone lies at the heart of this work.
It's a bit slow. at 46 min. The recording I have just purchased with Les Siecles / Ensemble Aedes takes 35 min. The Oxford Camerata recording of the work with the original 1888 orchestration + the two additional movements re-orchestrated to suit, takes
36.36.
The choir looks as if the will of the deceased has already been read, with severely disappointing consequences ...
