    "So What" by Bill Black's Combo was originally a chart hit in 1962, and
    then was reissued in late 1964 and charted Pop again for one week early
    in '65. I have it as an 8, and it's his best record IMO.

    It did not chart R&B either time in Billboard, but it reached the top 40
    R&B in Cash Box in 1962, staying on their Top 50 R&B chart for 6 weeks.

    Both "Smokie" and "White Silver Sands" topped BB's R&B chart for 4
    weeks.

    When I saw that you said that you had never heard the # 1 song before
    for the 1967 countdown I was wondering if I would know it. Turns out I
    did, although it's not one that I like all that much. "Never Leave Me"
    by Thelma Jones got to #22 on the CB Soul chart. It only got to #49 on
    the BB Soul chart. She was from Fayetteville, NC.

    Never heard of "Greatest Love" by Willie West before. It was a New
    Orleans record on Deesu. Pretty good.
