• Question on Extra time

From Steve Mc@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jul 14 15:00:51 2024
First off, sorry Roger. Tough loss.

Is there a logic/benefit to extra time vs. just stopping the clock when necessary ?

Of course not, but traditions die hard with this sport. CLEARLY they
should have 2 referees working with 2 linemen on these pro games, and
the World Cup, of course. The 2 referees would always be facing each
other, each with their back towards the nearer goal to them. That way
nothing ever happens behind the referee's back.

I'll second that, but some Brits do admit that Spain did look the
better side on the day. The England men's team have not won a trophy
since the 1966 World Cup (but the women's team are current European
champions) while Spain men's have now won their third European soccer championship since 2008 and they won the World Cup in 2010.

No problem. The overall better team on the night won.

    That's football

Is there a logic/benefit to extra time vs. just stopping the clock when necessary ?

A question often pondered by football fans the world over I suspect :)

Ha Ha, Steve just might innocently take you seriously, Roger.
