    This is a recommendation for all, but particularly you, Mark, due to where and when you spent your childhood. I watched this yesterday, and it's not only a great history of The Boys Of Summer, it's an inspiring tale of one of them:

    The Best We've Got: The Carl Erskine Story.

    It's repeating on the NYC PBS station Thursday at 4:30 AM.

    I also grew up in what is now called East Flatbush. My father took me
    to a Dodgers game in 1955, when I was 7. I don't remember anything
    about it. I was bored to tears, had no idea what was going on, and we
    left early. Pop never took me to another baseball game.

    Once a season, my father would come to my school , tell the nuns I had a doctor's appointment, and take me to Ebbetts Field to a Dodger game.
    I remember once, with the Dodgers behind 5-0 in the ninth, we left early to beat the traffic. When we got home, the score was 5-5. I didn't leave a sporting event early after that day for the longest time.

    Thanks, Bill. Oisk was certanly one of my heroes. Unfortunately this doc isn't appearing on the local PBS station and likely won't. But I'll keep an eye out for it.

    I remember my dad taking me to Seals Stadium the first year the Giants
    came out, 1958. It was much more memorable to me. Willie Mays. Arguably
    the greatest all-around ever. 'Nuff said.

    He's 92, and in this morning's paper was an article that the Giants will
    be playing the Cardinals next year (6/20/24) in Alabama's Rickwood
    Field, the Negro Leagues field that he first played in for the
    Birmingham Black Barons. He was 16.

    Some of the areas of Brooklyn that were middle-class in the 1950s were
    Brooklyn Heights, Flatbush, Borough Park, Eastern Parkway, and
    Brighton Beach.
