I have had an interesting request from one of my choir members. Does anyone know anything about an erstwhile "Protestant Ave Maria". My choir member thinks it may have been altered text set to the Schubert. Thanks!
That sounds like the edition put out in the Harold Flammer Choral
Series. It has an English text by Lorraine Noel Finley. The text is as follows:
Heavenly Father! Hear our pray'r!
We seek Thee in supplication;
We come to Thee in our despair,
For Thou canst grant us Thy salvation.
Our lives are safe in Thy affection.
We dwell within Thy love divine.
O Father, render Thy protection,
Maintain and guard us ever Thine!
Heavenly Father!
etc.
If this sounds like something you want, go for it. It's arranged by Wallingford Riegger. Its catalog number is A5110; Harold Flammer Music
is a division of Shawnee Press. It's SATB with soprano/tenor solo.
I'd recommend this only to non-Catholics, however. I'm choir director
at a Catholic church, and someone bought it for our church. It was
bought in memory of the woman's son who died tragically young, and she
wanted it sung, in the Latin version, on the anniversary of his death.
This edition is terrible to use with the Latin Ave Maria text. They
have changed so many rhythms, adding additional notes and excising
others to make the English text fit. I had to type up a 2-page set of
notes for my choir indicating what changes they would need to make in
their scores to sing the Latin. It's not worth it for a church choir!

This is a very old post, so I hope that someone on here may have the 2nd verse of Lorraine Noel Finley's lyrics to this arrangement by Wallingford Riegger of "Heavenly Father! (Ave Maria)?
Here is what I have so far...
(1st verse)
Heavenly Father, hear our prayer,
We seek Thee in supplication,
We come to Thee in our despair,
For Thou canst grant us Thy salvation,
Our lives are safe in Thine affection.
We dwell within Thy love divine.
Oh Father, render Thy protection,
Maintain and guard us ever Thine!
Heavenly Father!
(2nd verse)
Heavenly Father, Hallowed Thy name.
Oh lead us from our temptation,
But deliver us from evil shame.
Thy kingdom come with ....(?)
We served our lives into ….(?)
Our hearts are (?) for rebirth
Thy love hath (?) good forever
And glory shines in Heaven and earth
Heavenly Father!
If you have the correct lyrics to the 2nd verse, I would be ever so grateful!
Thank you,
