It must have been amazing to live in that neighborhood in the 60s! I was there a couple of times in the 90s. I remember a dinner of fried breaded oysters on skewers in one of the little restaurants.
John and Yoko would stay in the Miyako (now the Kabuki) Hotel in SF in the early 70s. There's a discussion of it in the Rolling Stone article "The Private Years." Elliot Mintz claims they paid for him to stay in the hotel for a month, but that John and
Yoko rarely left their quarters or ate. If Mintz is to be trusted, this was presumably before they had stayed with Dr. Hong in San Mateo and ended their methadone addiction.
