• The Woman in "Norwegian Wood"

From Norbert@21:1/5 to All on Wed May 21 12:28:23 2025
John Lennon admitted that his great song "Norwegian Wood" was about a
real affair, and that he deliberately added ambiguities (my word, not
his) to the lyrics to disguise the real events -- to add "gobbledygook."

He eventually admitted that the woman was journalist Maureen Cleave, who undoubtedly spent time with Lennon. She wrote the piece
"How A Beatle Lives" -- a depiction of a bored, lazy, lethargic man who
admits the only physical activity he has any interest in is sex.

Cleave denied that they had had an affair.

Yeah, it was Cleave to whom Lennon made that statement.

I didn't know she had written similarly-themed articles on the other
three guys. I'll try to track them down.
