Suggestions for recordings please - all voice types.
I have a recording of "Die Ehre Gottes aus der Natur", sung in Swedish
by the great
Jussi - sublime.
Wunderlich's An die ferne Geliebte is available on a composite CD
(together with sogs by Strauss I think)
I have a nice LP of Beethoven songs wit Martyn Hill and Christopher
Hogwood; there's also an interesting recording with Hermann Prey.
I also have a CD wih Ian Partridge/Richard Burnett which I prefer to
the Peter Schreier/Walther Olbertz.
As a summary: get the Wunderlich (released by Philips), trust the Brits
(this time!) ... Prey and Schreier are Ok for encyclopedic purposes. I
won't recommend you DFD/Demus, but ...
there are two concerts from Salzburg, 1965 which can be recommended:
a Beethoven Liederabend with DFD/Moore (somehow DFD live is more
inspiring)
and the Liederabend of Fritz Wunderlich with Dichterliebe, 8 Schubert
lieder and 5 Beethoven lieder.
Hope it helps
