• Offtopic, but: phishing attack in progress against MIT list servers

From Joe Kesselman@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jan 23 20:51:51 2022
Since I know there are other MIT alums out there, and the MIT servers
host mailing lists for some other organizations...

There's a phishing attack in progress against the mailing list servers
at MIT. It apparently blasts all subscribers of all lists with an e-mail claiming that 5 messages were not delivered and asking that you click on
a "recovery" link -- which, if you take the time to hover over it (as
you always should) goes to a non-MIT URI. If you're on multiple lists,
you can expect to get multiple copies of the phish.

Obviously, don't click on that link.

I've reported it to MIT info security. The lists I'm on happen to start
with A; maybe they can get this under control before the attack goes too
    much farther.

    (TTTO "Gone Filking"):

Gone phishing on a winter day,
Gone phishing so we'll get our way,
Gone phishing starting with List A,
Don't you wish we'd stop phishing?

Is this like when the president mailed about how the school was being shut
down because of threats about the Alan Schwartz case?

Or it more like when incoming students got email about their new dormitory assignment in the swimming pool?

Or is it more like the announcement sent out to all students about the terrible explosion thet destroyed the Caltech campus?

Thinking more about this, I am not sure I would trust ANY email from mit... --scott
