at least one person is. about a month ago, i saw someone wearing
headphones and using an iphone, except the headphones were not
connected to his iphone. he later reached into his pocket and pulled
out what looked like a late generation ipod nano, tapped it a few times
and put it back in his pocket, then continued using his iphone.

My trusty iPod Classic has been connected to my car in the center
console full time for the past decade+ supplying all of my music when on
road trips. I bring it inside to refresh the music library on it
occasionally. I replaced the HD in it with a larger SSD after the HD bit
the dust long ago. The battery is pretty weak these days, but it's
powered by the car anyway so is rarely actually used.

I have a spare iPod Classic sitting in a drawer in case I need it. The
last time I tried to boot it up it failed with a clicking noise
indicating the HD and/or battery may be in need of replacement on it as
    well.

I have 2 iPod Videos (5G) and 2 iPod Classics, and still use iTunes. I
only use one at a time, but keep the others handy in case something goes
wrong. They're exclusively used for podcasts.
