  • Two Months

    Last frost date here is usually around April 15th , but I've been bit
    by that snake before . I start planting out seedlings on the first of
    May now . That gives me 2 months from today to have seedlings ready .
    I'll be starting seeds directly into 4" plastic pots this year
    instead of the usual 6 cell plastic cells . Got like 80 of the things
    and they're just sitting there so ... I won't be using many , I'm
    cutting back this year .

    last frost date here is mid May. my mom has always insisted on
    using Memorial Day weekend as the last frost date. the very fine
    folks at the local Cornell AG Extension recommend it also. in
    the 6-7 years i've been gardening, i have yet to be bitten by
    frost after Memorial Day.

    i try some early plantings in mid-April or early May of beans
    and peas to see how they go. last year they didn't get damaged
    at all from a few light frost events.

    close enough to both Lakes Erie and Ontario to be affected by
    them. the Great <s>Lakes</s> Heat Sinks significantly affect
    temperatures and the weather.

    i try some early plantings in mid-April or early May of beans
    and peas to see how they go. last year they didn't get damaged
    at all from a few light frost events.

    you use row covers? right now they appear to be more tedium
    than i care to sacrifice time for. haven't done it yet.

    43°25N, but i'm inland a bit and also in a low spot where
    cold air can settle so that is different than those nearer
    the coasts.

    no, i don't cover them unless i really am worried about
    a hard frost and don't want to risk it. the beans i plant
    early i have plenty of so if they don't make it i can
    replant, but once they are up and growing i might want to
    protect them if they've been up a week or longer.

    peas can usually survive some cold so i don't worry as
    much about them and so far they've done ok.
