It's weird, but I have NO memory of the # of decks or the play. I did find info about a rummy game, but I don't know if was with the above info of # of cards. I'll share it & if you can figure it out & can play, let me know. My older sister passed away this past month & was my only living relative was unable to remember.
Maybe others will share & when the "How To" is solved put out the word & hopefully we will be able to revive a fun family game!
Presently I play Hand & Knee with friends & Dominoes. I got my son & daughter's spouse & 3 grans playing Chicken Foot, one variety of dominoes.

This is a variant of the game called Contract Rummy. It is similar to the commercially available game Phase 10.
Incidentally, Contract Rummy is also sometimes called 'May I?' because it has a unique feature that any discard is available to any other player, starting with the discarder's left.
