Occasionally there's brainblossom patch spawning. In most (all?) cases
there's a brainroot the cause which is buried below that square.
In my current game a brainblossom patch got created on a square with a
pit (and my chest full of trash). In the pit there was no brainroot as
I've somehow expected. I would have to dig it up, but digging a pit in
an already existing pit will create a hole. So I filled the pit with a
boulder (and also burying my chest with that move). Then pick-axed it
open again to get my chest - and the previously "invisible" brainroot!
I suppose if I had dug the pit (to get a hole) I might have uncovered
the brainroot as well - on (sort of) another depth level of the soil.
If the brainroot would be on a second depth level, though, it would
have moved (in the above described process) one depth level upward -
which anyway appears (logically) strange or even wrong.
Not sure whether that's considered a bug in notnotdNethack (or in its originating variants), or just as an inconsistency not worth caring
about.
