• What's a "bullet fabber"?

From Janis Papanagnou@21:1/5 to All on Thu Aug 1 15:28:37 2024
On a level that looks like a bones level (but not marked as one in
the #overview) I found a "white box with a yellow fiddly bit" that
got identified as a "bullet fabber". I could not find that word in
my dictionary so I'm curious if anyone knows what that actually is
(and its potential uses [in the notnotdNethack variant]).

In certain SciFi comic, IIRC, everything that produces goods (from tools
to spaceships) is called "fab" (I believ it's something to do with "fabrication"). Thus, I dare to speculate, tha "bullet fabber" is
something that produces bullets (specifics might surprise though).

I don't play notnotdNethack, but it is mentioned in the Wiki

    https://nethackwiki.com/wiki/Anachrononaut#Bullet_fabber

and the German Wikipedia has an entry:

    I don't play notnotdNethack,

No one (but me) seems to play it. :-)

but it is mentioned in the Wiki

Ah, I obviously missed to look there it seems. Thanks! - Before I
read Eric's response (SciFi reference) I thought it would be some
    conventional item described in dictionaries.

From the bones stash context where I found that item I suspected
it's application context already but didn't knew what exactly it
does and how. I took it with me as a "rare finding" souvenir but
didn't intend to practically use it. I left all the firearms etc.
in the stash where I found it.

Wow, I didn't expect that to be explained in a German source.

With its ancestors of notdNethack and dNethack I at least
expected someone who has some knowledge from those variants
to be able to contribute some explanations.

But this newsgroup appears anyway quite dead given that there's
not even discussions about Vanilla (in general or the newest
release specifically) which at least seems to have some player
community (at least as far as my observations on the Hardfought
    server goes).

If you start talking about dNethack, I'll contribute. I've been meaning
to pick up that variation. I don't know about notdetHack and
notnotdnethack though. Also there is a group on facebook called
"Nethack Rules!" which gets chatter from newbies and oldbies both.
