• [nndnh] Wallet of Perseus unaffected by wand of cancellation?

From Janis Papanagnou@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jul 29 00:39:35 2024
Inspecting my Wallet of Perseus - an artifact bag of holding - in my
current game I saw that it contained a charged wand of cancellation.
Not sure why or when I missed that wand in the first place, but it
certainly didn't blew up my bag. Strange, but good news at least.

I see three options: (a) that interaction ( (oh and /oc ) has been
lifted in nndnh; (b) WoP is specifically exempt (there may be other ineractions that have been added); (c) the interaction happens when
player puts /oc in (oh (while generation of WoP doesn't put anything
in). Soooooo,.. fsck around and find out, I guess.

p.s. I'm so uneducated that I've put (oh in another (oh twice. In one
    game. There's that.

Do you feel better if you hear; "been there, done that"!? - *sigh*
(Frankly, I don't recall if it were BoH or BoTricks or WoCancel,
but I definitely blew up BoHs twice in one game; I think it was in
Vanilla where all contained items get lost.) I really think that
this - an exploding BoH - is (and ever was) a mis-feature, even in
the less disastrous form implemented in some variants.

I'm not convinced. IMNSHO biggest mis-feature (of slashem specifically)
is utterly deficient UI. No, I'm not interested in other variants. I'm
pretty much certain, UI thee is deficient too. Maybe differently but
    still.

    I'm not convinced.

Convinced by what? (I wasn't trying to convince anyone. Just named
    a long-existing "feature" as what I think it is; a "mis-feature",
one that adds nothing to the game play but only annoys players in
    case of a mistype.)

IMNSHO biggest mis-feature (of slashem specifically)
    is utterly deficient UI.

The thing I'm wondering about is that there's so many variants and
some have really good UI improvements (compared to Vanilla Nethack),
but strangely some seem to have even made steps backwards instead
of incorporating the good ideas into Vanilla (or the variants).

No, I'm not interested in other variants.

Well, AFAIK Slashem development is discontinued, so complaints will
not help to alleviate the situation, I fear. Other variants at least
*might* care (and some already did).

    I'm
pretty much certain, UI thee is deficient too. Maybe differently but
    still.

I can't quite parse that; if you meant the UI deficiencies of the
    "nndnh" variant I certainly agree.

Still wishing there wouldn't be so many variants, each with their
own deficiencies (and also with their own _specific_ improvements),
but a more convergent development. (But, sadly, it is what it is.)

Absolutely. That's not you who does convincing.

As much as I can see from afar, development is pacing slowly -- more
monsters, more artifacts, and documentation is 20y old. The usual.

I'm pretty much certain, UI thee is deficient too. Maybe differently
    but still.
I can't quite parse that; if you meant the UI deficiencies of the
    "nndnh" variant I certainly agree.

    There's a typo -- 's/UI thee is/UI there is/'. As of nndnh (or any
other variant or vanilla) I have no opinion whatsoever. For reasons.

Still wishing there wouldn't be so many variants, each with their own deficiencies (and also with their own _specific_ improvements), but a
more convergent development. (But, sadly, it is what it is.)

Well, I'm self admitted trained conspirologist. And I can describe a conspiracy that would tie everything this together. That being said,
that wouldn't change anything. So rather abstain.

I confess that I've blown up a couple with BoTricks. For some reason
that one escapes my attention when I am playing. I'm pretty careful
    with wands however.
