• Inaccessible area on the map?

From Janis Papanagnou@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jul 15 12:38:41 2024
(I'm playing notnotdNethack but the topic described below may as well
have been borrowed from precursors, notdNethack or dNethack.)

I've encountered a non-connected area on a level of the main dungeon.
After digging towards it and around it looks like a 3x3 room. It has
undiggable walls. There's no ESP-detectable monsters in there. Object
detection suggests that the area is empty. A try to teleport into that
area failed. (It may be full of traps or contain only solid rock, but
I don't know; what else could prevent the teleport? Maybe it's full of
    non-ESP monsters?)

It is identified and described by the #overview command as: "Level 16: (inaccessible area)".

What purpose does it serve? Is there any way to get into that area?
Does it make sense to visit that area in the first place? Or should I
    just ignore it?

What was the message when you used teleport control to get there?

Upon reconsideration; this may have been just an #annotated description
(by me) not a generated one. (It's been quite some time when I explored
it so I may have forgot that actually I named it that way. Doh!) Sorry!

It was the usual effect that we get when trying to land on a square you
cannot land on (occupied by monster or any trap preventing landing); so
I just landed at a different location on that level. I don't recall any specific message; if there was a message I forgot the exact formulation
because it was nothing unusual. Too much time passed since I discovered
that area. If I'll come back to that level (presuming I'll survive the
game) I'll spend another scroll of teleport to verify that.

    The message is simply "Sorry...".

I tried to teleport to almost every square in that region, but to no
avail. Read confused gold detection, but there are no traps in there.
There could be non-ESP monsters filling the area that occupy any free
landing spot. Finally quaffed a blessed potion of monster detection
and detected a 'Z', a zombie (dread seraph, a huge humanoid), that
covered the central square of that region. With that information we
    can find: https://nethackwiki.com/wiki/Dread_seraph
As became obvious, it's better to leave it alone. It will be a pain
    once woken up.
