• Make monster corpses food last longer?

From Janis Papanagnou@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jul 6 16:55:15 2024
Does any variant that supports forges allows to make dead monsters'
corpses last longer (for eating purposes) by barbecuing the corpse
on a forge? - Just an idea that popped up.

Not evilHack. I noticed corpses last SHORTER times there. No lazy
daisy standing around killing everything and feasting on the dede, bebe.

To tell my opinion is I think this would only add micromanagement... Not everybody 'inds cooking entertaining.

Not the cooking, and not for entertainment. Just to have some more
sources of food and to make forges more useful. (I'm not sure what
for forges are in the variant [nndnh] I'm currently playing; there
have been #forge uses in some other variant [evilhack?] I played.)

slashem has a "tinning kit". There are nuances, of course. I can't
tell if it was borrowed or invented.

It has been in Vanilla already. And I suppose all variants still have
it and (even if they're rare) you may occasionally stumble across one.

    There are forges in evilHack.

Yes, there are forges in Evilhack and you can _use_ them, e.g. to
    #forge artifact weapons.

I've encountered forges also in notnotdNethack but there's at least
no #forge command, so I'm curious what purpose they might serve.
(Thus the barbecuing idea to make them at least a bit more useful.)
But any hints about their purpose (beyond atmosphere) are welcome.
