[nndnh] Ceramic shards, metallic slabs (and other unknown items)?

In the Chaotic quest I collected all sorts of ceramic shards and
metallic slabs:
8 uncursed ceramic shards bearing a knotted glyph {24}
8 uncursed ceramic shards bearing a hanging glyph {24}
10 uncursed ceramic shards bearing a multilinear glyph {30}
7 uncursed ceramic shards bearing a dotted glyph {21}
11 uncursed ceramic shards bearing a crossed glyph {33}
9 uncursed ceramic shards bearing a bipartite glyph {27}
an uncursed metallic slab bearing a blinding glyph {300}
an uncursed metallic slab bearing a verdant glyph {300}
What purpose do they serve? (I don't seem to find any information
about this - and about many more things of this variant! - in the
Wiki or elsewhere. More generally; how is that variant supposed
to be understood? I'm feeling a bit helpless with so many things
and so few [concrete] information. I think such things, if they
serve some purpose and are not only style features, should at
least be described in the Guidebook. I've noticed some similar
difference between invented features and documented features in
some other of the many variants.) </rant>
