• [nndnh] Aspect of The Silence

From Janis Papanagnou@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jul 2 16:41:27 2024
At the end of some quest the Aspect of The Silence demon appeared.
From distance I tried zapping wands of sleep and death, but to no
avail. (Okay, upon reconsideration, that 'U' being a demon makes
    that ineffectiveness pretty clear.)

I read the Wiki entry and became scared (left through levelport).
They write he disintegrates armor and then you, he drains levels,
inflict illness, etc. Since I've noticed that in variants there's
often some super-version of attacks implemented I'd like to know
whether my instrinsics would have been sufficient to survive the
contact with that demon, and with all my gear intact; I am very
firm from eating a black dragon, I've a helm of drain resistance,
and a unicorn horn and blessed full healing (to counter illness).

What I wouldn't like is that my helm gets disintegrated (despite
being very firm), and then level drained, and all the course of
quick and unavoidable decay we sometimes experience in roguelikes.

After some intermezzi in other parts of the dungeon I returned to
face the Aspect of The Silence. Long story short; after I lost my
+5 fireproof cloak of displacement and also some more charges from
other worn armor I decided to try paralyzing it. A bit surprising
that was quite effective and finally I killed The Silence.
