    enough choices at this point until I discovered the Fort. Once Sokoban
    was finished I was without recourse to physical combat for about 10
    levels. Meanwhile Pelias called for help on a big level that's going to

    If monster hordes are no issue, you seem to be playing a combat role?

    Maybe switching to a variant may support your needs? - For example
    EvilHack (but there are other variants that also show overcrowding)
    spawns tons of monsters and the generation rate even increases during
    the game to insane values. (I dislike that but you may like it.)

    There's some means to detect all traps (including portals) in one go.
