• YANI: Sharing bones files

From jerk-o@21:1/5 to All on Tue Apr 4 19:33:31 2023
I recently came across an open source recreation of Diablo 1 that runs on several OSes, and it uses something called ZeroTier to enable players to play multiplayer games with other people playing the game. After playing for a few weeks, I had an idea
for NetHack: Use ZeroTier to share bones files with other people playing Nethack.

I don't share bones so I'm only marginally concerned, but since yet
no one answered here are my 2 ct...

For bones exchange folks here used to use Hearse[*] in the past.

On a quick glimpse ZeroTier seems to be a commercial product (with
the usual issues you'd have and have to consider).

    Take your pick.

(What would be the dis-/advantage of one or the other tool?)

I agree; hearse has been the best tool to exchange bone files since forever.

I can't think of a disadvantage of using one of the other tools. I just like the idea of
sharing bones with other players without having to run a separate program.
