• rust trap

From Yosemite Sam@21:1/5 to All on Sun Apr 2 19:44:55 2023
Rust traps are one of my fears. It won't do to descend with a very corroded long sword. There was a rust trap in my starting room. I tried to destroy it by running it out of water. No rust traps in my foyer. The effort was futile. I hit it about 100 times and it still continues to exist much to my dismay.

Yes, they are a nuisance.[*] Especially early game you need every
point of damage done to monsters and can not afford a rust-malus.

(Well, you could have just ignored it once it was identified.)

    The effort was futile.

    (Can rust-traps dry out?)

It would probably be wiser to obtain a pick-axe and dig a pit on
    that square.

[*] In EvilHack even worse; at some corrosion level items disappear.
This happened during a fountain dip for Excalibur -> weapon gone.
Also wading through shallow water seems to disintegrate metal boots
    after some turns.
Recently I wanted to uncurse The One Ring of Gollum by dipping it
into a fountain; to my surprise this specific "indestructible" item
got rusty and only just before it would have got destroyed I stopped
    the dipping.
